Jakarta, INTI - Indonesia is set to host the country's first AI Factory data center campus developed by Firmus Technologies through a strategic partnership with NVIDIA. Located in Batam, the project is expected to generate off-take agreements worth up to US$30 billion (approximately Rp534 trillion) during its first six years of operation.
Strategic Partnership to Build AI Infrastructure
According to The Straits Times, Firmus Technologies, in collaboration with Singapore-based data center developer DayOne, will construct a 360-megawatt NVIDIA DSX AI Factory campus in Batam under an eight-year partnership with NVIDIA.
Co-Chief Executive Tim Rosenfield said the facility will mark Firmus Technologies' first AI-focused data center project in Indonesia. Unlike the company's Australian operations, which primarily serve hyperscale cloud providers, the Batam campus will operate as a multi-tenant AI computing hub designed to support a wide range of artificial intelligence businesses.
Construction of the facility is currently underway by DayOne, with commercial operations scheduled to begin in the first quarter of 2027.
Supporting Southeast Asia's Growing AI Ecosystem
Under the partnership, Firmus Technologies will gain access to NVIDIA's AI infrastructure through a revenue-sharing model supported by financing arrangements. The agreement includes access to as many as 170,000 NVIDIA AI accelerator chips, which are expected to be deployed between 2027 and 2028.
The company estimates the collaboration will generate between US$25 billion and US$30 billion in contractual commitments during the project's initial six years.
The investment further strengthens Batam's position as an emerging digital infrastructure hub in Southeast Asia, driven by rapidly increasing demand for high-performance computing resources to support AI development and deployment.
The partnership also comes as Firmus Technologies prepares for a potential public listing. The Australian startup was valued at approximately US$5.5 billion during a funding round in April that included participation from NVIDIA.
While reports have suggested the company may pursue an initial public offering (IPO) in 2026, Rosenfield declined to comment on the listing plans.
Conclusion
The AI Factory project represents a significant step in expanding Indonesia's AI infrastructure and digital economy. By combining NVIDIA's advanced computing technologies with Firmus Technologies' data center expertise, the Batam campus is expected to become a key regional hub for AI innovation and large-scale computing services across Southeast Asia.
