Jakarta, INTI - Pertamina New & Renewable Energy (Pertamina NRE) officially strengthened its commitment to leading the national energy transition by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with PT Bukit Asam (Persero) Tbk (PTBA).
The MoU signing took place in Jakarta on Thursday, July 2, 2026. This collaboration focuses on the development of a solar power plant in PTBA’s operational area and post-mining land.
Through the collaboration, Pertamina NRE is ready to play a central role in converting national assets into clean energy hubs, while also supporting the 100 gigawatts (GW) solar power plant development program targeted for 2029.
Corporate Secretary of Pertamina NRE, Sri Nur Hidayati, stated that the project is a strategic step to accelerate green energy development while strengthening national energy security.
"This collaboration is expected to not only produce sustainable green energy projects, but also encourage an increase in the Domestic Component Level (TKDN), strengthen the national industrial ecosystem, and open up green funding opportunities to support the development of new and renewable energy in Indonesia," she said.
Pertamina NRE and PTBA have agreed on a comprehensive scope of cooperation, starting with the site identification stage and continuing with a feasibility study covering both technical and financial aspects. Afterward, both parties will evaluate the cooperation model before moving on to the final stage of full project development.
PTBA’s Commitment in Reducing Carbon Emissions
PTBA’s Director of Downstreaming and Product Diversification, Turino Yulianto, emphasized their serious commitment to supporting environmental protection through the "Sustainability Through Technology" initiative.
PTBA believes that Pertamina NRE’s technological expertise can address the challenge of reducing global carbon emissions without sacrificing energy security or national economic growth. This collaboration serves as a concrete example of utilizing state assets to support Indonesia’s commitment to clean energy.
“Through this collaboration with PT Pertamina NRE, we see a significant opportunity to optimize PTBA's national assets, including utilizing post-mining land for solar power plant development and various other renewable energy potentials that can simultaneously provide economic, social, and environmental benefits,” said Turino.
PTBA aims to optimize national assets, including utilizing reclaimed and rehabilitated post-mining land to transform it into a new green energy hub that supports Indonesia's Net Zero Emission target.
Conclusion
Pertamina NRE and PT Bukit Asam signed an MoU to develop a solar power plant project in PTBA's operational areas and post-mining land. The cooperation stages include site identification, technical and financial feasibility studies, business model evaluation, and full project development. This collaboration aims to optimize the utilization of post-mining land that has been reclaimed and rehabilitated into a clean energy center, support the 100 GW PLTS development target, and accelerate the national energy transition.
