Nvidia Supports Firmus' Indonesia Data Center Expansion Plans

14 hours ago | Data Center

Jakarta, INTI - Australian AI infrastructure startup Firmus Technologies has announced plans to develop its first data center project in Indonesia through a strategic partnership with Singapore-based data center operator DayOne. The initiative is backed by an eight-year collaboration with Nvidia to support the growing demand for artificial intelligence infrastructure.

The project will feature a 360-megawatt (MW) data center campus in Batam, with commercial operations expected to begin in the first quarter of 2027.

According to Co-Chief Executive Officer Tim Rosenfield, the Batam facility will primarily serve AI-native enterprises rather than hyperscale cloud providers, reflecting the increasing demand for dedicated AI computing infrastructure.

Firmus also revealed that its revenue-sharing and credit support agreement with Nvidia provides access to infrastructure capable of supporting up to 170,000 AI accelerator chips during 2027 and 2028. The company expects committed customer demand under the partnership to generate between US$25 billion and US$30 billion in offtake value over the first six years.

Batam Strengthens Position as Indonesia's Data Center Hub

Batam continues to attract large-scale digital infrastructure investments thanks to its strategic location just 20 kilometers from Singapore, extensive submarine cable connectivity, and the presence of the Nongsa Special Economic Zone (SEZ), which offers tax incentives and flexible regulations for data center development.

DayOne has already announced plans for a 72 MW data center campus at Nongsa Digital Park, while another Batam-based project has secured a 450 MW power supply agreement, highlighting the region's growing capacity to support hyperscale digital infrastructure.

Once completed, Firmus' 360 MW campus is expected to become one of the largest announced data center developments in Indonesia. For comparison, the country's largest operational data center currently has a capacity of 36 MW, while Digital Edge has unveiled plans for a 500 MW campus in Bekasi.

Conclusion

Firmus' planned AI-focused data center in Batam represents a significant milestone in Indonesia's expanding digital infrastructure landscape. Supported by Nvidia and DayOne, the project is expected to strengthen the country's AI computing capabilities while reinforcing Batam's position as a leading regional hub for next-generation data center investment.
