Jakarta, INTI - PT XLSMART Telecom Sejahtera Tbk (XLSMART), Indonesia's newly integrated telecommunications provider, is accelerating its network expansion in East Java by extending its 5G Blanket Coverage across eight strategic cities and regencies. The initiative is part of the company's strategy to strengthen network leadership while meeting the growing demand for high-speed mobile data from consumers and businesses.
As one of Indonesia's key economic regions, East Java serves as a major hub for manufacturing, logistics, trade, and micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs), particularly for the eastern part of the country. Recognizing the region's strategic importance, XLSMART has continued investing in digital infrastructure to deliver seamless and reliable connectivity throughout the province.
Unlike conventional deployments that provide limited 5G access in selected locations, the company's 5G Blanket Coverage approach is designed to offer consistent and widespread network availability across high-mobility areas, ensuring users can experience stable high-speed connectivity.
The expanded 5G network is now available in eight locations across East Java, including the metropolitan areas of Surabaya, Gresik, and Sidoarjo; the Madura region covering Bangkalan, Pamekasan, Sampang, and Sumenep; as well as Tuban along the province's northern coastal corridor.
Supporting Digital Inclusion and Economic Growth
According to the company, data traffic in East Java has increased by approximately 6%, driven by growing demand for digital services such as high-definition video streaming, mobile gaming, and AI-powered applications.
Dodik Ariyanto, Regional Group Head for East Java at XLSMART, said the company's infrastructure investment is intended to generate tangible economic benefits, particularly for businesses and MSMEs.
"Our investment is not only about delivering better connectivity but also about enabling communities and businesses to become more productive in the digital era. MSMEs can now optimize online marketing, conduct real-time transactions, and adopt digital payment solutions more efficiently," he said.
Meanwhile, Moch. Irwan Harahap, Head of Regional Technical Network at XLSMART, emphasized that reliable network infrastructure is essential to expanding digital inclusion and creating more opportunities for communities.
"We believe quality connectivity empowers people to learn, work, innovate, and grow their businesses," he explained.
As Indonesia's newest integrated telecommunications operator, formed through the combined strengths of XL Axiata, Smartfren, and Smart Telecom, and serving more than 69 million customers, XLSMART expects its continued investment in East Java's digital infrastructure to accelerate regional digital transformation, strengthen the local digital economy, and support its vision of becoming the country's Most Loved Company.
Conclusion
The expansion of XLSMART's 5G Blanket Coverage marks an important step in strengthening East Java's digital infrastructure. By delivering broader, more reliable connectivity, the company aims to support digital inclusion, empower businesses and communities, and accelerate regional economic growth as Indonesia continues its digital transformation.
