Robotic Technology Takes the Spotlight at the 79th Anniversary of the Indonesian National Police

9 months ago | Robot Industrial & Automation

Jakarta, INTI – In celebration of the 79th Bhayangkara Day held at the National Monument (Monas), the Indonesian National Police (Polri) showcased a remarkable technological display. Dozens of advanced robots including humanoid patrol robots and smart robotic dogs (i-K9) took part in the parade, highlighting Polri’s strong commitment to adopting modern technologies to support its duties.

With the involvement of 9,751 personnel and hundreds of cadets from the Indonesian Police Academy, this year’s event went beyond ceremony. Polri signaled its readiness for a future where robotics and artificial intelligence (AI) play a key role in public service and law enforcement.

Robots as Strategic Partners in High-Risk Missions

Polri’s Inspector General of Supervision, Komjen Dedi Prasetyo, emphasized that the deployment of humanoid robots and i-K9 units is a strategic move to enhance seven core police functions. These include surveillance in hazardous areas, bomb disposal, search and rescue operations during disasters, and forensic evidence collection.

“These robots are designed to operate in high-risk zones, keeping our officers safe. In the future, they will serve as strategic partners in various field operations,” said Dedi in an official statement on Friday (June 27, 2025).

The robots are equipped with features such as vehicle identification, traffic monitoring, and traffic monitoring, and AI-powered facial recognition for public service. Ropi, the autonomous information robot, is also being introduced to improve community engagement and smart policing.

Homegrown Tech Collaboration Powers Polri’s Transformation

The robot development project is a result of collaboration between Polri and local tech company PT SARI Teknologi. According to CEO Yohanes Kurnia Widjaja, the i-K9 robot is built to withstand extreme weather conditions for up to 8 hours and is integrated with behavior analysis AI.

“We tailor each robot’s function to meet Polri’s operational needs. However, this is still a developmental phase. Thousands of hours of testing are required before these robots are fully operational,” said Yohanes.

This innovation aligns with President Prabowo Subianto’s Asta Cita, which emphasizes strengthening human resources, research, and technological mastery as part of Indonesia’s vision for progress.

Technology That Enhances Humanity in Policing

Despite their futuristic appearance, these robots are not intended to replace human officers, but rather to support their work, reduce risks, and improve public service efficiency and safety.

“Modernizing the police force is a long-term journey. We want technology to serve as a tool that enhances humanity in law enforcement,” added Dedi.

Civilians Join Bhayangkara Day Parade

Besides the robot parade, the celebration also featured tactical action performances such as terrorist raids, motorcycle chase simulations, and rappelling from the top of Monas. Civilian participants, including children, joined the parade—some holding signs reading “Free Nutritious Meals,” reflecting Polri’s involvement in government social programs like the President’s Nutrition Support Unit.

Hundreds of Cadets Train for the Big Day

In preparation for the celebration, hundreds of cadets from the Police Academy (Akpol) rehearsed for the parade at Monas. “We’ve been training since June 23, starting at dawn and continuing until evening,” said a cadet identified only as Ucup. The government provided daily meals and catering support during training.

Robots Take Center Stage in Tech Showcase

Polri also presented humanoid robots wearing official police uniforms, capable of marching, saluting, and even running. The display included 10 humanoid robots, 10 robotic dogs, two robot tanks, two Ropi units, and a drone robot. Several foreign nationals were also seen assisting in the robot operation during the parade.

Polri’s Head of Public Relations, Trunoyudo Wisnu Andiko, explained that these humanoid robots are part of Polri’s commitment to embracing modern technology and increasing operational efficiency.

Conclusion: The Era of Smart Policing Has Begun

The 79th Bhayangkara Day is not just a celebration of history and dedication it is a declaration that the Indonesian Police is entering a new era of digital transformation. With AI, robotics, and smart systems integrated into their operations, Polri is setting the foundation for safer, smarter, and more human-centered policing.
