Jakarta, INTI - PT Pertamina Geothermal Energy Tbk. (PGE) is preparing a data center business pilot project in Kamojang, West Java. This initiative is part of the company's off-grid business development, which is expected to unlock a new revenue stream.
President Director of PGE, Ahmad Yani, stated that the study for the project is currently in its final stages, with implementation targeted to begin this year.
"We are currently conducting a study in Kamojang. Hopefully, it will soon commence as a real pilot project," said Ahmad at a media briefing in Jakarta on Tuesday, August 4, 2026.
In this project, PGE will serve as the electricity supplier for data center operations, utilizing green geothermal energy. According to Ahmad, power supply reliability is a critical factor, as data centers cannot afford operational disruptions.
Discussions with Industry Players
He added that PGE has already established partnerships with IDPro and Telkom to develop this business. Additionally, the company has held discussions with Microsoft to understand the infrastructure needs and energy supply characteristics required by the data center industry.
"We have also communicated with Microsoft to understand their requirements and their focus regarding data center development," said Ahmad.
Following the completion of the Kamojang pilot project, PGE plans to expand its data center business to other regions with high potential, such as Sulawesi and Sumatra. He said that Sulawesi holds promising prospects due to its existing subsea cable connectivity.
