Jakarta, INTI - PT Lautan Luas Tbk. plans to expand its use of solar power plants as part of its long-term energy transition strategy. This move is marked by the signing of a heads of agreement with Greenvolt Power Indonesia, coinciding with PT Lautan Luas’s 75th anniversary.
President Director of PT Lautan Luas, Indrawan Masrin, stated that the preliminary agreement reflects the company's commitment to building a sustainable business ecosystem for customers, the public, and future generations.
Lautan Luas is a chemical and specialty ingredients distribution and manufacturing company serving various industrial sectors, such as food and beverage, personal and home care, pulp and paper, and oil and lubricants.
According to Indrawan, adopting clean energy on a broader scale will strengthen the company's operational resilience amid energy supply challenges, help manage the risk of rising energy costs, and meet sustainability demands from global customers and business partners.
"The collaboration with Greenvolt Power Indonesia will help us realize this initiative more effectively and strategically, while simultaneously creating long-term value for the company and all stakeholders," he said.
Greenvolt will Support Lautan Luas’s Solar Energy Roadmap
Under the signed heads of agreement, Greenvolt Power Indonesia will support the development of Lautan Luas's solar energy roadmap. This includes technical and commercial assessments, project development and financing schemes, construction, long-term operation and maintenance, and the provision of performance data for environmental, social, and governance (ESG) reporting purposes.
The solar power plants will be installed at eight Lautan Luas facilities across the Jabodetabek and East Java regions, including the company's headquarters. The project is targeted to supply approximately 1.7 million kilowatt-hours (kWh) of clean electricity annually.
The implementation of this project is estimated to reduce emissions from electricity consumption by approximately 1,400 tons of CO2e annually and support the targets outlined in Lautan Luas’s 2022–2031 Sustainability Roadmap.
Construction Begins This Year
Following the signing of the initial agreement, both companies will commence technical assessments across the project sites. Construction for the first phase is targeted to begin this year, with the second phase scheduled for 2027.
Adam Salter, Country Director of Greenvolt Power Indonesia, noted that every industrial company has its own technical, operational, and commercial requirements when adopting renewable energy.
He stated that Greenvolt’s experience in developing clean energy projects across various countries and understanding of Indonesia’s energy sector will assist Lautan Luas in integrating renewable energy into its operations, thereby enhancing efficiency and long-term business resilience.
