Jakarta, INTI - The Indonesian government is continuing to accelerate the national energy transition through the development of clean energy sources and low-emission technologies. The initiative aims to strengthen the country’s energy security while reducing long-term dependence on fossil fuels.
Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) Bahlil Lahadalia stated that the government is currently implementing directives from Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto to speed up the expansion of renewable energy through a number of strategic programs.
One of the key initiatives being accelerated is the development of large-scale solar power plants with a capacity of up to 100 gigawatts (GW). In addition, the government is also promoting alternative energy sources such as hydrogen, ammonia, and nuclear energy as part of its national energy diversification strategy.
According to Bahlil, the utilization of these low-carbon energy sources is expected to support Indonesia’s energy transition targets while creating a more sustainable and competitive energy system.
ASEAN’s Green Energy Potential Requires Regional Collaboration
Meanwhile, President Prabowo emphasized that the ASEAN region possesses abundant natural resources with strong potential to support green energy development. These resources include hydropower, solar energy, wind power, and vast productive land that remains underutilized.
In his remarks, the President stressed that Southeast Asia’s significant clean energy potential must be accompanied by concrete action and stronger regional collaboration to accelerate the region’s energy transformation.
“The question is whether we are ready to act on that potential, not only to meet subregional demand, but also to support ASEAN’s energy transition,” Prabowo said.
Conclusion
Indonesia is intensifying its commitment to energy transition by expanding renewable energy development and exploring low-carbon alternatives such as hydrogen, ammonia, and nuclear power. Backed by President Prabowo’s vision and regional cooperation efforts within ASEAN, the strategy is expected to strengthen long-term energy security while supporting a more sustainable and competitive future energy ecosystem.
