Jakarta, INTI - The latest Gemini Report: Southeast Asia 2026 shows that the way Indonesians use artificial intelligence (AI) is beginning to change. Users are no longer relying on keyboards, but are increasingly interacting with AI through voice commands, photos, and videos.
The Google Gemini report noted that 82% of users in Indonesia access Gemini via mobile devices. Furthermore, one in two prompts submitted by Indonesian users already uses multimodal input, such as uploading photos or sending voice recordings directly from their phones.
This trend is supported by Gemini's ability to understand local context. Around 80% of prompts from Indonesia are written in everyday Indonesian language, not English.
The ease of using native languages and access via smartphones also encourages visual creativity. Indonesian users produce around 9 million images daily with Gemini, making Indonesia at the top of the list in AI-based visual innovation in Southeast Asia.
Users in Southeast Asia Use Gemini with Their Native Languages
Google's Vice President for Southeast Asia and South Asia Frontier, Sapna Chadha, said this growth is driven by the technology's ability to adapt to local habits. During the Press Briefing Gemini SEA Report virtual event, she explained that users are using Gemini in their own way, in their preferred language, and in contexts unique to their lives.
She added that Google is proud that Gemini has become the choice of many AI users in Southeast Asia, including Indonesia. She expressed that what makes the Southeast Asian region special is how AI has naturally integrated into people's daily activities.
Gemini's ability to understand various languages in the region is also reinforced by the results of the Southeast Asia Holistic Evaluation of Language Models (SEA-HELM) evaluation by AI Singapore, which ranked Gemini as the best-performing multilingual language model (multilingual LLM) in Southeast Asia.
The findings in the report show that AI is no longer just a technology for experimentation. In Indonesia, AI has evolved into a digital assistant that assists with various daily activities and supports user mobility.
