Jakarta, INTI - PT Indosat Tbk. (ISAT) is considering participating in the upcoming 700 MHz and 2.6 GHz spectrum auctions being prepared by Indonesia’s Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs (Komdigi). The company says it welcomes the government’s initiative to make additional spectrum available for the telecommunications industry.
Reski Damayanti, Director and Chief Legal & Regulatory Officer of Indosat Ooredoo Hutchison, said the company is currently conducting an internal assessment before making any decision regarding its participation in the auctions.
“We are still carrying out internal evaluations and will make a decision at the appropriate time regarding our participation,” Reski told Bisnis on Thursday, May 28, 2026.
According to Reski, Indosat is reviewing several factors before deciding whether to join the bidding process, including service requirements, market conditions, and the long-term value that additional spectrum could deliver to the company.
She noted that new spectrum allocations would serve as a critical foundation for the development of future digital services, particularly as data consumption continues to grow alongside broader adoption of digital technologies.
“At present, we continue to see healthy and robust growth in data usage. This trend is supported by increasing Daily Active Users (DAU) and Monthly Active Users (MAU), accompanied by more productive data consumption patterns among customers,” she said.
Indosat Highlights Opportunities and Challenges in the 5G Era
Reski added that growth in Average Revenue Per User (ARPU) has been driven by improvements in customer quality and the implementation of hyper-personalization strategies, enabling the company to offer more targeted products and services.
Looking ahead, Indosat expects demand for data services to continue rising, fueled by the adoption of artificial intelligence (AI) technologies and the expansion of digital services that are becoming increasingly integrated into everyday life.
Amid plans for additional spectrum allocation, Indosat also highlighted the ongoing challenge of monetizing 5G networks. Reski emphasized that maximizing the value of fifth-generation technology will require more than traditional connectivity services alone.
Conclusion
Indosat remains open to participating in Indonesia’s upcoming 700 MHz and 2.6 GHz spectrum auctions, but the company is still evaluating the strategic and commercial implications. As data demand continues to rise, driven by AI adoption and digital transformation, additional spectrum could play a crucial role in supporting future network capacity and service innovation. At the same time, the company acknowledges that unlocking the full value of 5G will require business models that go beyond traditional connectivity offerings.
