Jakarta, INTI - Indonesia's Deputy Minister of Communication and Digital Affairs, Nezar Patria, emphasized that the development of artificial intelligence (AI) in Indonesia should generate tangible benefits for national development through technology transfer, human capital enhancement, and multi-stakeholder collaboration. These efforts are expected to accelerate digital transformation and support the country's vision of achieving Golden Indonesia 2045.
AI Development Aimed at Driving National Growth
Nezar stated that synergy between local talent and global expertise is a critical foundation for accelerating Indonesia's digital transformation while supporting the nation's ambition to become a developed country by 2045.
He highlighted the importance of collaboration, noting that it serves three key purposes: facilitating technology transfer, enhancing capacity building, and ensuring sustainable progress.
According to Nezar, Indonesia has set an ambitious economic growth target of 8 percent, making digital transformation and advanced technological infrastructure essential drivers of future economic expansion.
He stressed that AI should serve as a new engine of economic growth by leveraging Indonesia's demographic dividend, rapidly expanding digital economy, and long-term development commitments.
“With a strong demographic dividend, a dynamic and growing digital economy, and a firm commitment to long-term development, we are not merely a market, we are a hub for innovation, talent, and strategic investment,” Nezar said.
AI Center of Excellence Expected to Enhance Indonesia's Competitiveness
Nezar also underscored that national AI development must remain human-centered and deliver broad societal benefits.
One key initiative reflecting this principle is the establishment of an AI Center of Excellence through strategic collaboration between the government and industry partners. The center is designed to strengthen Indonesia's AI competitiveness while advancing national digital sovereignty.
The initiative is also expected to expand access to AI technologies across various sectors and support the country's broader development agenda.
“AI should be a catalyst for progress, a partner in development, and a tool that empowers every segment of society. That is the true essence of AI for good,” he stated.
Nezar further noted that Indonesia's long-term development goals cannot be achieved through domestic efforts alone. Strategic partnerships with global technology companies are necessary to connect world-class innovation with the country's growing pool of digital talent.
Such collaborations, he explained, will enable Indonesia not only to adopt emerging technologies but also to adapt, innovate, and create new sources of economic value aligned with national development priorities.
“When global expertise meets Indonesian ingenuity, we do more than adopt technology, we adapt it, innovate upon it, and create new sources of economic value,” Nezar concluded.
Conclusion
Indonesia aims to position AI as a key driver of economic growth by focusing on technology transfer, talent development, and global collaboration. Through initiatives such as the AI Center of Excellence, the country seeks to strengthen digital competitiveness while ensuring AI delivers meaningful benefits for society and supports the vision of Golden Indonesia 2045.
