Jakarta, INTI - The government has designated the waste-to-energy (PSEL) projects in Bekasi, Greater Bogor, and Greater Denpasar as National Strategic Projects (PSN). This designation is expected to accelerate the construction of waste processing facilities while supporting the reduction of urban waste and the development of renewable energy.
PSN status was granted based on Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Regulation No. 16 of 2025, which includes the Integrated Waste Management Program in the PSN list. These three projects represent the first wave of waste-to-energy development facilities based on environmentally friendly technology.
Pandu Sjahrir, CEO of PT Danantara Investment Management, stated that this designation demonstrates that waste management is now a government priority.
"In addition to contributing to solving the urban waste problem, these projects are also expected to support an increase in the renewable energy mix, emission reduction, and the development of more sustainable urban infrastructure," said Pandu.
Three Locations as the Foundation of WTE Ecosystem in Indonesia
Pandu explained that the PSEL projects in Bekasi, Bogor, and Denpasar are expected to form the foundation for the development of a waste-to-energy ecosystem in Indonesia. In addition to reducing dependence on landfills, these facilities can convert waste into an economically valuable energy source.
The three projects are managed by Bekasi Environment Nusantara, Nusantara Bogor New Energy, and Nusantara Bali New Energy. With PSN status, these projects will receive coordination support across ministries and agencies, including facilitation in resolving various obstacles during the construction process.
Fadli Rahman, CEO of Daya Energi Bersih Nusantara, said the designation is an important step to accelerate the development of waste-to-energy facilities in Indonesia.
"This PSN designation demonstrates that waste management through PSEL is no longer merely a regional need, but rather a national strategic interest," Fadli said.
