Telkomsel Obtained 100 MHz of Spectrum, Ready to Strengthen Its 5G Services in Indonesia

5 hours ago | Network Infrastructure

Jakarta, INTI - Telkomsel obtained a 100 MHz radio frequency spectrum allocation through the 700 MHz and 2.6 GHz Radio Frequency Band User Selection held by the Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs (Kemkomdigi). The allocation consists of 2x10 MHz in the 700 MHz band and 80 MHz in the 2.6 GHz band.

This additional spectrum will be utilized in stages to improve the quality of telecommunications services, expand digital connectivity, and strengthen the development of the 5G network in Indonesia. Its implementation will take into account customer needs, network technology readiness, and the national digital transformation agenda.

The 700 MHz band, a low-band spectrum, offers wide coverage and helps strengthen network coverage and signal quality. Meanwhile, the 2.6 GHz band is mid-band spectrum with a higher capacity that can support increased data traffic and 5G service readiness. The combination of the two bands allows Telkomsel to balance the needs of network coverage and capacity.

Gradual Optimization and Development

Telkomsel will gradually optimize the spectrum and responsibly deliver more equitable connectivity and increase service capacity, in line with the village development commitments set by Kemkomdigi.

Telkomsel's VP Technology Strategy & Consumer Product Innovation, Ronald Limoa, stated that the spectrum acquisition represents more than just additional network resources, but also a responsibility to deliver broader digital benefits to the community.

The additional network capacity is increasingly important amid the growth in internet usage, the development of cloud computing, streaming, artificial intelligence (AI), and the increasing number of connected devices.

Optimizing the 700 MHz and 2.6 GHz spectrum is expected to benefit individual customers, households, businesses, and the industrial sector, all of which require stable connectivity. Furthermore, Telkomsel will coordinate with regulators and stakeholders to implement the plan in accordance with applicable regulations.

Conclusion

Telkomsel obtained a radio frequency spectrum allocation of 100 MHz, consisting of 2x10 MHz in the 700 MHz band and 80 MHz in the 2.6 GHz band. This additional spectrum will be utilized in stages to improve network quality and capacity, expand digital connectivity, and support the development of 5G in Indonesia. Telkomsel also stated that the spectrum will be utilized responsibly to provide more equitable connectivity and support national digital transformation.
