Jakarta, INTI - AI-powered bot accounts are increasingly spreading across timelines and are difficult to distinguish from real users. In response to this situation, X is preparing a detection tool to identify and act against automated accounts, including spam and scraping activities.
The advancement of AI technology has made bots appear more “human,” both in language style and interaction patterns. For this reason, X will strengthen its system to recognize activity patterns that do not demonstrate genuine human engagement.
Enforcement and Policy Measures
As reported by Social Media Today, X’s Head of Product, Nikita Bier, explained that accounts without direct human interaction are potentially subject to suspension along with other related accounts. This policy applies even to accounts used solely for automated testing.
The crackdown also targets crypto scam bots and mass promotion activities that are non-organic. These practices are considered to pollute public conversations and fill timelines with uniform, spam-like content.
The bot issue has long been a focus since X was still known as Twitter. Its owner, Elon Musk, once stated that bots accounted for more than 20% of activity before he acquired the platform.
After the $44 billion acquisition was completed, eradicating bots became one of management’s top priorities. However, implementation is not straightforward, as bot technology continues to grow increasingly sophisticated.
This latest step is also related to the quality of data used for X’s AI development, including Grok via xAI. Cleaner data free from spam is expected to improve the accuracy and response quality of these systems.
Nevertheless, X acknowledges that this policy could affect legitimate AI agent use. For the time being, developers who require automated integration are advised to use official API’s until the filtering system matures.
Conclusion
With AI bots becoming increasingly sophisticated, X’s proactive detection and enforcement measures aim to preserve authentic user interactions and enhance the reliability of its AI systems. While challenges remain, this initiative underscores the platform’s commitment to cleaner, more trustworthy timelines.
