Jakarta, INTI - Meutya Hafid stated that the launch and operation of the Nusantara Lima Satellite marks a concrete step by the government to strengthen Indonesia’s digital sovereignty in outer space. Developed by Indonesian talent, the satellite, which carries the largest capacity in Asia at 160 Gbps, is expected to become a game changer for national connectivity.
“We are proud and deeply appreciate the contributions of PT Pasifik Satelit Nusantara and PT Satelit Nusantara Lima. This is a historic milestone for Indonesia. Through the Nusantara Lima Satellite, Indonesia is strengthening not only its national presence but also its role in the region. In line with President Prabowo Subianto’s directive, Indonesia must actively participate on the global stage, including in outer space,” Meutya stated during the inauguration ceremony in South Jakarta on Monday, May 11, 2026.
Currently, more than 230 million Indonesians, around 80 percent of the population, are connected to the internet. However, Meutya emphasized that the next major challenge lies in ensuring equal connectivity access across remote and underserved regions.
“We want every citizen, from Sabang to Merauke and from Rote Island to Miangas, to experience equal digital opportunities. No region should be left behind,” she said.
Government Pushes Inclusive and Secure National Connectivity
Meutya also stressed that the vision of President Prabowo’s administration goes beyond simply expanding signal coverage, emphasizing that connectivity must also drive economic growth and public protection.
“There is no point in building connectivity if it does not improve people’s welfare and economic opportunities. More importantly, connectivity must also protect our society. We are committed to safeguarding children from cyber violence, online gambling, radicalization, and various other digital threats,” Meutya explained.
She added that the Nusantara Lima Satellite will serve as a strategic infrastructure project to support and secure Indonesia’s national digital transformation agenda.
“Indonesia needs intelligent and courageous people. PSN has demonstrated that courage. The government will continue strengthening collaboration with industry players to build a digital ecosystem that is advanced, secure, sovereign, and sustainable,” Meutya Hafid concluded.
Conclusion
The launch of the Nusantara Lima Satellite marks a significant milestone in Indonesia’s efforts to strengthen digital sovereignty and expand national connectivity infrastructure. Through collaboration between the government and domestic satellite industry players, Indonesia is aiming to build a more inclusive, secure, and sustainable digital ecosystem capable of supporting the country’s long-term digital transformation agenda.
