Jakarta, INTI - PT PLN (Persero) launched the Mentari Nusantara I Solar Power Plant (PLTS) project with a total capacity of 1,225 gigawatts, developed through an integrated procurement scheme called "GIGA ONE," with the official tender process beginning on April 30, 2026.
GIGA ONE is a breakthrough in the procurement model for large-scale renewable energy power plants. By bundling or consolidating several projects into one strategic package, PLN encourages optimal economies of scale and provides more measurable project certainty for investors.
PLN President Director, Darmawan Prasodjo, explained that this GIGA ONE approach is designed to accelerate the implementation of clean energy projects and further attract investment in the national electricity sector.
"Through the GIGA ONE bundling strategy, project procurement is consolidated into one strategic package. This makes the project's economics much more bankable, increases project certainty, and makes the procurement and construction processes more efficient," said Darmawan.
He expressed that this project not only strengthens the national clean energy mix and supports energy independence, but also creates a multiplier effect for the economy, including encouraging the growth of green jobs.
Mentari Nusantara I Solar Power Plant to Strengthen National Industry
PLN's Director of Project Management and New and Renewable Energy, Suroso Isnandar, stated that this project is a flagship program that serves as the initial driver in supporting the government's target of building 100 gigawatts of PLTS.
"Through the GIGA ONE bundling strategy, PLN positions renewable energy as a driver of national industrial growth. This is not just about building power plants, but developing an integrated clean energy industrial ecosystem from upstream to downstream," Suroso explained.
In addition to accelerating development, this program is also aimed at increasing the Domestic Component Level (TKDN) and strengthening national energy manufacturing. This will strengthen the domestic supply chain and make it more competitive.
The Project will Be Spread in Various Regions and Replicated
In terms of capacity, the 1.225 gigawatt Mentari Nusantara I PLTS will be spread across various regions in Indonesia, including Sumatra (35 MW), Kalimantan (340 MW), Java (600 MW), Sulawesi (50 MW), West Nusa Tenggara (80 MW), and Maluku and Papua (120 MW). All projects are targeted to reach their commercial operation date in 2029.
Going forward, the GIGA ONE integrated procurement strategy will also be replicated in the development of hydropower, wind power, and Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS). This step is part of the transformation of the national electricity sector towards a clean energy system that is independent, resilient, and sovereign.
"GIGA ONE is a new blueprint for renewable energy procurement in Indonesia and an important milestone in the national energy transition journey," concluded Suroso.
Conclusion
PT PLN (State Electricity Company) launched the 1.225 GW Mentari Nusantara I solar power plant project through the "GIGA ONE" integrated procurement approach. This bundling scheme combines several projects into one package to increase efficiency, improve economic performance, and attract investment. The program also aims to strengthen the national clean energy industry and increase local content (TKDN). The solar power plant projects will be spread across various regions in Indonesia and are targeted to be operational in 2029.
