Jakarta, INTI - PT Pasifik Satelit Nusantara (PSN) officially launched the Nusantara Lima Satellite (SNL), or N5, as a step toward strengthening Indonesia's digital independence and national satellite capacity amid global geopolitical dynamics.

PT Pasifik Satelit Nusantara President Director, Adi Rahman Adiwoso, stated that the presence of Nusantara Lima is an important symbol for Indonesia in maintaining national sovereignty in the space and telecommunications sectors.

The Satellite also Covers the Philippines and Malaysia

During the satellite's operational inauguration at the JS Luwansa Hotel in Jakarta on Monday, May 11, Adi explained that Nusantara Lima has service coverage in Indonesia, Malaysia, and the Philippines. He stated that the satellite not only strengthens Indonesia's position in Southeast Asia, but also demonstrates the importance of sovereign capacity in digital connectivity.

Adi said that several countries in the region are beginning to place more attention on national connectivity independence amid global geopolitical uncertainty. He stated that Nusantara Lima will be recognized as national capacity by the Philippines and is currently under discussion with Malaysia.

He also highlighted Indonesia's position as a major player in the satellite industry in the Asia Pacific.

"Together with other Indonesian satellites, we can report that Indonesia has a capacity of 400 Gbps, which is very large. We can continue to play a role on the global stage with the largest capacity in Asia," Adi continued.

Adi explained that PSN Group has implemented three geostationary satellite programs in the past decade with a total investment of more than Rp23 trillion.

"With the launch of Nusantara 5 in 2025, PSN Group aims to demonstrate Indonesia's ability to compete on the global stage and open a new chapter in the development of the national space industry," Adi said.

Kemenkomdigi’s Appreciation

Meanwhile, Minister of Communication and Digital Affairs (Komdigi) Meutya Hafid appreciated PSN's success in completing the entire development and operation of the Nusantara Lima Satellite. She considered the project a historic achievement for Indonesia. She also praised the capacity of Nusantara 5, which is said to be the satellite with the largest capacity in Asia.

"This demonstrates that the presence of Indonesia, or a satellite created by the nation's children, not only supports domestic interests but also regional interests," said Meutya.

Meutya said the government wants to ensure that all Indonesians, even in remote areas such as Sabang, Merauke, Rote Island, and Miangas, can access adequate internet and communication access. She believes that going forward, national connectivity solutions will need to increasingly rely on technology developed by the nation's youth.

Furthermore, Meutya explained that the Kemenkomdigi promotes the concept of the three pillars of digital development, connected, growing, and secure, especially for frontier, outermost, and underdeveloped (3T) regions. According to her, digital connectivity development must be able to drive economic growth while protecting the public from various threats in the digital space.
