Jakarta, INTI - Indonesian E-Commerce Association (idEA) has requested additional time to comply with the Tunas Government Regulation (PP Tunas), particularly regarding the implementation of age verification on e-commerce platforms.
Currently, the government has given all Electronic System Operators (PSEs) a deadline of March 27, 2027, to comply with PP Tunas by implementing age verfication and parental consent features.
The Secretary General of idEA, Budi Primawan, believes the available time is insufficient because implementing the supporting features requires complex technical and business adjustments.
"Actually, it's not enough, but we will do our best," said Budi on Thursday, May 7.
Initial Steps Have Been Implemented
According to Budi, e-commerce platforms are currently conducting assessments in accordance with the direction of the Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs (Kemkomdigi). Several initial steps have also been implemented, such as setting a minimum user age limit, which on some platforms is set at 13 years old to prevent children from using the services freely.
However, he explained that until now there has been no strict implementation of KYC (Know Your Customer) for regular users or buyers.
"What we're strict of is usually the sellers. For example, if a seller wants to sell, they must have a name that matches their ID card, and their account must match their ID card. So, we assume that banks have also implemented KYC," Budi said.
Furthermore, e-commerce platforms have provided complaint buttons on product pages to report problematic items and implemented a return system for consumer protection. Furthermore, if a child makes a transaction using a parent's account, the item can still be returned.
Product oversight is also carried out through collaboration with regulators such as Kemkomdigi, the Ministry of Trade, and the National Agency of Drug and Food Control (BPOM), including the implementation of a list of prohibited goods so that products such as prescription drugs cannot be sold on the marketplace.
Conclusion
Indonesian E-Commerce Association (idEA) requested additional time to comply with the Tunas PP regulations, as the implementation of age verification and parental consent features is deemed to require a lengthy process. idEA Secretary General Budi Primawan stated that the deadline is still insufficient, but will continue working on compliance. Several initial steps have been implemented, such as a minimum user age limit, strict seller verification, a return system, and monitoring of prohibited products in collaboration with regulators.
