Jakarta, INTI – MediaTek has officially launched two new Internet of Things (IoT) platforms, Genio 720 and Genio 520, designed to support applications powered by generative artificial intelligence (AI). These platforms offer fast local processing, energy efficiency, and advanced multimedia features for various IoT devices in smart home, retail, industrial, and commercial sectors.
Genio 720 and Genio 520 are equipped with an 8th-generation Neural Processing Unit (NPU) capable of achieving up to 10 TOPS of performance. This technology enables hardware acceleration for transformer models and convolutional neural networks (CNN). With support for up to 16GB of LPDDR5 memory, these platforms can optimally run large language models (LLMs) such as Llama, Gemini, Phi, and DeepSeek. This makes them ideal solutions for various generative AI tasks, including pattern recognition, human-machine interaction (HMI), and multimodal applications.
According to CK Wang, General Manager of MediaTek’s IoT Business Group, these platforms mark a new era of IoT innovation, offering powerful yet energy-efficient generative AI capabilities. The technology also ensures user data privacy by processing information directly on the device.
Built on a 6nm process technology, Genio 720 and 520 feature an octa-core CPU combining two Arm Cortex-A78 processors and six Cortex-A55 processors. This design allows for a balance between high performance and low power consumption, making them highly suitable for fanless mobile devices or battery-powered systems.
Additionally, both platforms support the Open Standard Module (OSM), which accelerates product development cycles. OSM enables developers to maintain power and signal integrity in their devices while streamlining integration with various IoT solutions.
Genio 720 and 520 come with several key features, including:
With an operational capability across a wide temperature range, Genio 720 and 520 are designed to meet the demands of IoT devices in diverse environments, including industrial and commercial sectors. By combining energy efficiency, high performance, and support for generative AI, these platforms provide intelligent solutions for developers and industry players looking to create more innovative and reliable IoT devices. MediaTek’s partners are expected to start launching solutions based on these platforms in the second half of 2025, marking a significant step forward in the evolution of AI-driven IoT technology.
