Kemkomdigi Provides Internet Access for Community Schools, Funded by Ministry of Social Affairs

10 months ago | Network Infrastructure

Jakarta, INTI – Efforts to ensure equal access to digital education across the country have once again been reinforced. The Indonesian government, through the Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs (Kemkomdigi), has confirmed that internet access for Community Schools (Sekolah Rakyat) will be funded by the Ministry of Social Affairs (Kemensos). This policy is part of a national strategy to expand education access and accelerate digital transformation, especially in underserved regions.

Director General of Digital Infrastructure at Kemkomdigi, Wayan Toni Supriyanto, stated that a funding scheme for internet access at Community Schools has been officially decided.

“The internet for Community Schools will be funded by the Ministry of Social Affairs,” he said in Central Jakarta on Friday (June 28).

Inter-Ministerial Synergy for Equal Access

In this collaboration, Kemkomdigi is responsible for providing the network infrastructure and ensuring the quality of internet services that support teaching and learning activities, while Kemensos will fully cover the cost of the internet service to sustain the program.

This step is a tangible commitment from the government to bring internet access to remote areas through the Community School Program an initiative designed to bring education closer to children in rural areas with the support of technology.

Community Schools as Smart School Models in Remote Regions
Minister of Communication and Digital Affairs, Meutya Hafid, emphasized that the Community School Program is part of President Prabowo Subianto’s priority agenda, aiming to establish smart schools across Indonesia.

“These schools are designed, according to the President’s direction, to become smart schools, where everything heavily depends on the internet services provided by Kemkomdigi,” Meutya stated.

As an initial step, Kemkomdigi has delivered high-speed internet assistance to two Community Schools in the Special Region of Yogyakarta.

High-Speed Connections to Support Active Learning
The two schools now connected with high-speed internet are:

  • Bantul Regency Community School: received 100 Mbps internet service, supporting 75 students across three learning groups.
  • Sleman Regency Community School: equipped with 200 Mbps internet, to be used by 200 students from five districts/cities in Yogyakarta.

With a stable and fast internet connection, digital-based teaching and learning activities at these schools can now run more effectively.

Digital Access for Social Equity
Kemkomdigi reiterated that digital education is not just about devices and networks it’s about social justice. Every Indonesian child, without exception, deserves the same opportunity to learn and grow.

With the synergy between Kemkomdigi and Kemensos, and the vision of President Prabowo, Community Schools have become proof that digital equity is not merely a concept, but a concrete action in building a more inclusive future for education.

Conclusion:
Through inter-ministerial collaboration, the government has successfully provided high-speed internet access to Community Schools as part of its national digital education transformation strategy. This program not only addresses technological gaps in remote regions, but also stands as a crucial milestone in ensuring social justice and enhancing the quality of education for Indonesia’s younger generation.
