Jakarta, INTI - PLN Icon Plus is contributing to a broader PLN Group collaboration to accelerate Indonesia’s 100 GWp Solar Power Program, officially launched by Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto in Gilimanuk, Bali, on Tuesday (August 25). As part of the initiative, PLN Icon Plus is contributing by installing a 350-kilowatt peak (kWp) solar power system.
The 100 GWp Solar Power Program represents the government’s efforts to expand renewable energy utilization while strengthening Indonesia’s energy independence. In its initial phase, the program comprises 14 solar power projects with a combined capacity of 5,300 megawatt peak (MWp) across various regions of Indonesia.
The program’s launch was attended by President Prabowo Subianto, Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Bahlil Lahadalia, PLN President Director Darmawan Prasodjo, PLN Icon Plus President Director Chipta Perdana, PLN Icon Plus Director of Operations M. Soffin Hadi, PLN Icon Plus Director of Planning and Development Aditya Syarief Darmasetiawan, along with government officials and other stakeholders.
Indonesia Accelerates Renewable Energy Development
President Prabowo Subianto said solar energy development is an important step toward accelerating Indonesia’s energy independence and self-sufficiency. Expanding renewable energy is also part of the government’s strategy to meet national energy demand through domestic energy resources.
“Today is an important day as we launch 100 GW of solar-generated electricity for the Indonesian people. Through the 100 GW Solar Power Program, we will truly become a nation that can stand on its own,” Prabowo said.
Minister Bahlil Lahadalia said the 100 GWp program follows President Prabowo’s directive to pursue breakthroughs that can accelerate national energy sovereignty. Solar power development will therefore leverage the country’s renewable energy potential through various approaches, including large-scale solar farms, floating solar power plants, rooftop solar systems, and solar installations for industrial areas and productive activities.
“Today, we are taking a major step toward achieving what the President has consistently instructed us to pursue: national energy self-sufficiency and sovereignty. Indonesia has been blessed with extraordinary resources, not only beneath our feet, but also above our heads,” Bahlil said.
Bahlil added that the 100 GWp program will be developed through eight key scenarios, covering emissions reduction, solar power deployment across multiple sectors, and the creation of new demand for green energy.
“If all of these initiatives can be implemented, we could reduce emissions by approximately 140 million tons of CO₂ per year, with an estimated carbon economic value of IDR 6.31 trillion,” Bahlil said.
The large-scale solar program is also expected to generate significant economic benefits. In terms of employment, the initiative could create approximately 5.5 million jobs, consisting of around 3.465 million construction workers and 2.053 million manufacturing workers.
In its initial phase, the program is expected to generate economic benefits through reduced fuel consumption. The projects could also stimulate regional economies by increasing construction and manufacturing activity, as well as economic activity among communities surrounding project sites.
“The total investment for these projects is estimated at approximately US$71.3 billion, equivalent to around IDR 1,140 trillion. Through this overall program, we could achieve annual subsidy efficiencies of up to IDR 73.9 trillion,” Bahlil explained.
PLN Group Strengthens Execution of Solar Power Expansion
PLN President Director Darmawan Prasodjo said PLN is fully committed to supporting the government’s vision of achieving energy self-sufficiency and advancing national downstream industrial development. PLN will work with stakeholders to accelerate the 100 GWp Solar Power Program while ensuring the readiness of the electricity system, supporting infrastructure, and solar power projects.
“PLN is ready to carry out the President’s mandate to accelerate the development of 100 GWp of solar power. As part of Indonesia’s national electricity ecosystem, PLN will give its full support to ensure solar energy can be integrated into the power system reliably, safely, and sustainably. This is part of PLN’s commitment to supporting energy self-sufficiency through the utilization of domestic, green, and environmentally friendly energy,” Darmawan said.
PLN Icon Plus President Director Chipta Perdana emphasized that large-scale solar development requires strong coordination among entities across the PLN Group. He said PLN Icon Plus is ready to contribute through its expertise and capabilities in energy and technology solutions.
“The 100 GWp Solar Power Program requires strong collaboration and execution capabilities across the entire PLN Group. PLN Icon Plus is contributing through our expertise in energy solutions and technology. Completing a 350 kWp installation in a single day demonstrates our readiness to support the rapid expansion of solar energy through fast and measurable execution,” Chipta said.
