5 hours ago | Artificial Intelligence

Jakarta, INTI - PT Indosat Ooredoo Hutchison Tbk (Indosat), in partnership with Huawei, has introduced several artificial intelligence (AI)-powered features through its AI New Calling service. This technology is designed to make phone-based communication easier, clearer, and more interactive.

Chief Technology Officer (CTO) of Indosat, Desmond Cheung, stated that integrating AI into communication services can help address various challenges users face, such as language barriers and background noise.

"Our ambition is to make AI more accessible through the connectivity people use daily, helping them communicate more easily, overcome obstacles like language differences and noisy environments, and manage their digital lives more simply," said Desmond during the collaboration event between Indosat and Huawei in Jakarta on Wednesday, August 26, 2026.

Four Features were Introduced

The four features introduced under AI New Calling are AI Noise-Reduction Calling, Real-Time Call Translation, Interactive Visualized Voice Calling, and Visualized Voice Calling or IDOLCALL.

  1. AI Noise-Reduction Calling utilizes AI to suppress background noise from both ends of the conversation, ensuring clearer audio quality even when users make calls from bustling environments.
  2. Real-Time Call Translation enables live translation during a call. Translations can be presented as either audio or subtitles, facilitating communication between users who speak different languages.
  3. Interactive Visualized Voice Calling, allows voice calls to be enhanced with video or visual content suitable for various purposes, like food ordering, hotel reservations, or call center services.
  4. Visualized Voice Calling (IDOLCALL) is a calling experience that allows users to select a celebrity or popular intellectual property (IP) to appear as a digital avatar on their phone screen during the conversation.

These four features demonstrate how AI can be integrated into calling services to enhance the ease, quality, and interactivity of communication. Desmond also noted that the development of this technology is part of the collaboration between Indosat and Huawei to build a Connected Intelligence ecosystem in Indonesia.

Indosat and Huawei introduced four AI-powered features via its AI New Calling service to enhance the convenience and interactivity of phone communications. These features include AI Noise-Reduction Calling to suppress background noise, Real-Time Call Translation to translate conversations instantly via both audio and subtitles, Interactive Visualised Voice Calling to add visual content to calls, and Visualized Voice Calling to show digital avatars of celebrities or popular intellectual properties (IP).
