Indonesia's Drone Industry Ecosystem Continues to Strengthen with Certification and Collaboration Programs

3 hours ago | Drone Industry

Jakarta, INTI - The Ministry of Industry (Kemenperin) continues to encourage the strengthening of the national drone industry ecosystem, particularly those developed by Small and Medium Industries (IKM).

Minister of Kemenperin, Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita, stated that drone IKM plays a crucial role in driving national economic growth, given its dominant number of business units and contribution to job creation.

"Going forward, Kemenperin will continue to strengthen the drone IKM development ecosystem through a holistic approach, starting from expanding market access, strengthening technological capacity, and providing affirmative protection and facilities for business actors," said Agus in a statement in Jakarta on Thursday, May 7.

National Drone Industry Consists of 29 Businesses

Over the past three years, Kemenperin, through the Directorate General of Small and Medium Industries (IKMA), has implemented various structured development programs. Based on data from the National Industrial Information System (SIINas), there are 15 small-scale businesses and 2 medium-scale businesses in the drone sector, employing 218 workers.

Overall, the national drone industry ecosystem includes 29 businesses with a total of 853 workers and an investment value of IDR 7.17 billion. The Director General of IKMA, Reni Yanita, revealed that the development of drone IKM continues to be strengthened through the ISO 9001:2015 certification facilitation program, which will run until October 2026.

"We have selected the drone IKMs to receive assistance, from providing materials and document preparation assistance to internal audits and external audits until they obtain ISO certification," she explained.

According to Reni, this certification is crucial for ensuring that drone SME production quality standards meet global market demands and boost business confidence in penetrating export markets.

International Collaboration Opportunities

Furthermore, the Kemenperin is actively seeking international collaboration opportunities. One way to achieve this is through the participation of drone IKM in the BRICS - Science and Innovation Incubation Park (SIIP) in Xiamen, China, which opens export opportunities to BRICS member countries, including South Africa.

The Director of IKM for Metal, Machinery, Electronics, and Transportation Equipment, Dini Hanggandari, stated that the development of drone IKM has been carried out since 2023 through various programs, such as Startup for Industry (SFI), facilitation of Domestic Component Level (TKDN) certification, and participation in national and international exhibitions.

Conclusion

The Ministry of Industry (Kemenperin) is continuing efforts to strengthen Indonesia’s national drone industry ecosystem, particularly among Small and Medium Industries (IKM), through programs focused on market expansion and technology development. Indonesia currently has 29 drone-related businesses employing 853 workers with investments totaling IDR 7.17 billion. Kemenperin is also facilitating ISO 9001:2015 certification to improve product quality and export competitiveness, as well as opening international market opportunities through participation in international programs and collaboration.
