The Data Center Industry is Increasingly Expansive as AI Demand Grows

5 hours ago | Data Center

Jakarta, INTI - The wave of investment in Indonesia's data center industry continues to roll. Several industry players are accelerating expansion and strengthening capabilities to meet the growing demand for cloud computing and artificial intelligence (AI) digital infrastructure.

PDG’s JC4 Campus

One of them is Princeton Digital Group (PDG), which is preparing its 240-megawatt (MW) hyperscale data center campus, JC4, in Jabodetabek area. A data center campus is a complex consisting of several data center buildings in a single, interconnected area that share supporting infrastructure, such as power supplies, cooling systems, and network connectivity.

Located in the Greenland International Industrial Center (GIIC) area in Bekasi Regency, JC4 is approximately 1.7 kilometers away from PDG's already operational JC3 campus. The two campuses are designed to share electricity and connectivity infrastructure, thereby increasing operational efficiency and resilience.

Denny Setiawan, Director of Digital Infrastructure Policy and Strategy at the Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs (Kemkomdigi), stated that the rapid development of AI has increased the need for high-performance digital infrastructure.

"PDG's 240 MW JC4 hyperscale campus is a significant investment that strengthens Indonesia's readiness for the next era of digital transformation," said Denny.

LGSM’s Strategy in Data Center Industry

Meanwhile, LG Sinar Mas Technology Solutions (LGSM) is also preparing several strategies to seize opportunities in the data center industry. LGSM, the joint venture of LG CNS and SM+, is not only targeting growth in the domestic market but also opening up opportunities to expand its business to regional markets.

Chief Operating Officer of LGSM, Ariawan, said the company views data centers not just as physical infrastructure, but as part of a broader enterprise technology ecosystem.

As a system integrator with end-to-end capabilities, LGSM strengthens its design, build, and operation capabilities. It also combines LG CNS's engineering experience in managing large-scale, mission-critical facilities with Sinar Mas's local market understanding.

"It's possible that LGSM will be able to support broader data center needs in the future, both for the Indonesian market and regional opportunities, in line with evolving customer needs and the company's business strategy," Ariawan said recently.

Conclusion

Investment in Indonesia's data center industry continues to surge as the need for digital infrastructure for cloud services and artificial intelligence (AI) soars. Princeton Digital Group (PDG) is building a 240 MW JC4 hyperscale data center campus in Bekasi, integrated with the JC3 campus to improve operational efficiency and resilience. Meanwhile, LG Sinar Mas Technology Solutions (LGSM) is also strengthening its data center design, construction, and management capabilities through a collaboration between LG CNS' engineering expertise and Sinar Mas' local market understanding.
