Jakarta, INTI - Indonesia will become the center of attention for the global internet community in October 2026, as Bali has been officially selected to host the ICANN87 Annual General Meeting, an international forum that brings together stakeholders from around the world to discuss the future of global internet governance.
The Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs (Komdigi) has expressed full support for the organization of ICANN87, which will take place from October 17–22, 2026, in Bali.
The support was conveyed by Deputy Minister of Communication and Digital Affairs Nezar Patria during a meeting with the Indonesian Domain Name Registry (PANDI) and the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) at the Komdigi office in Jakarta.
During the meeting, Nezar welcomed the visit from ICANN and PANDI representatives, who discussed preparations for the upcoming ICANN87 event. He also stated that the invitation for the Minister of Communication and Digital Affairs to officially open the international forum would be forwarded for further consideration.

Indonesia Strengthens Its Role in Global Internet Governance
As the local host, PANDI expressed its appreciation for the government’s support, emphasizing that collaboration with Komdigi is essential to ensure the successful implementation of ICANN87. This includes stakeholder coordination, technical preparation, and strengthening Indonesia’s role in the global internet governance ecosystem.
Beyond event preparations, PANDI also highlighted the importance of collaboration in addressing domain name abuse in Indonesia, including the misuse of domains for illegal activities such as online gambling.
To support these efforts, PANDI has developed the Indonesia Domain Abuse Data Exchange (IDADX), an integrated platform designed to monitor, analyze, and coordinate responses to domain abuse more effectively.
Meanwhile, Samiran Gupta expressed appreciation for the Indonesian government’s support in hosting ICANN87. The meeting also addressed technical requirements, including coordination on customs and immigration procedures to ensure the smooth implementation of the international forum.
The hosting of ICANN87 represents a strategic opportunity for Indonesia to demonstrate its growing role in global internet governance. In addition to serving as a platform for discussions on international internet policies, the forum is expected to strengthen Indonesia’s commitment to building a safer, more inclusive, and trusted digital environment.
Registration for ICANN87 has been open since July 6, 2026. The forum welcomes participation from the global internet community, academics, industry representatives, government institutions, and the public who are interested in discussing the future of global internet governance.
Conclusion
