Jakarta, INTI - Indonesia’s National Cyber and Crypto Agency (BSSN) has further strengthened the country’s role in global cybersecurity diplomacy through the renewal of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Korea Internet & Security Agency (KISA). The agreement was signed in Seoul, Republic of Korea, on Wednesday, July 8, 2026, as part of efforts to enhance strategic cooperation between the two countries in digital transformation and cybersecurity.

Indonesia and South Korea  Strengthen Strategic Cybersecurity Partnership

The renewed MoU was signed by Head of BSSN Nugroho Sulistyo Budi and KISA President Lee Sang-Joon, witnessed by Indonesia’s Ambassador to the Republic of Korea, Cecep Herawan.

Nugroho Sulistyo Budi stated that the renewal of the partnership represents a strategic step to strengthen Indonesia’s cybersecurity capabilities while addressing increasingly complex digital threats at the global level.

"This renewed cooperation reflects the commitment of Indonesia and the Republic of Korea to strengthening cyber resilience, enhancing human resource capabilities, and expanding collaboration in artificial intelligence security (AI Security)," Nugroho said, as quoted from BSSN’s official statement.

The partnership is part of the implementation of the Special Strategic Partnership between Indonesia and South Korea, which identifies digital transformation, artificial intelligence development, and cybersecurity as key priorities for both nations.

Expanding Cybersecurity Capabilities Through AI Security and Digital Skills Development

Through the updated MoU, BSSN and KISA agreed to expand their collaboration scope, covering cybersecurity capacity building, professional training, digital forensics enhancement, optimization of the Indonesia Cyber Security Vocational Center (CSVC), and the development of AI Security technologies.

"This cooperation is focused on strengthening cybersecurity capabilities through workforce development, digital forensics, CSVC development, and collaboration in the AI Security domain," Nugroho added.

BSSN highlighted that the collaboration is expected to accelerate knowledge transfer, improve the competency of Indonesia’s cybersecurity professionals, and strengthen national preparedness in responding to evolving cyber threats amid rapid digital transformation.

Beyond strengthening Indonesia’s national cyber resilience, the partnership between Indonesia and South Korea is also expected to contribute to the creation of a safer and more trusted global digital security ecosystem through stronger international coordination.

"This strategic partnership is expected to reinforce the global cybersecurity ecosystem while strengthening cross-border cooperation in mitigating increasingly complex cyber threats, supporting the creation of a secure, resilient, and trusted digital environment," Nugroho concluded.

Conclusion

The renewed partnership between BSSN and KISA highlights Indonesia and South Korea’s shared commitment to building a stronger and more resilient digital ecosystem. Through expanded cooperation in cybersecurity capacity building, digital forensics, and AI Security, both countries aim to enhance cyber preparedness, accelerate knowledge exchange, and contribute to a safer global digital environment.
