Jakarta, INTI - Deputy Minister of Communication and Information Technology Nezar Patria advocates for enhancing the quality of human resources proficient in Artificial Intelligence (AI). He emphasizes the importance of this to ensure Indonesia plays a significant role in developing AI technology globally, not just as a user.
"Indonesia has the potential to enhance its role as a global AI developer, not just a user," he stated during the Thinktank & Journalist Workshop: Accelerating Responsible AI Governance and Innovation with Copilot for Indonesia at the Pullman Hotel, Central Jakarta, on Monday (06/05/2024).
Wamen Nezar Patria mentioned that the government is pushing for the establishment of AI research and development centers to facilitate technology and knowledge transfer in the AI field.
"Hence, continuous research and development activities on AI are necessary, especially concerning technology and knowledge transfer to ensure inclusive access to AI technology and knowledge," he explained.
With skilled human resources in AI, community empowerment and progress will be accelerated. According to Wamenkominfo, even simple tasks like structuring prompts in generative AI platforms like ChatGPT need to be learned to achieve optimal results.
"There is training available on using generative AI, and learning how to structure prompts is crucial for the effectiveness of generative AI," he clarified.
Wamen Nezar Patria also urges the public to support government and industry initiatives that promote human resource capacity development. Therefore, he appreciates Microsoft's plan to develop AI infrastructure and cloud computing in Indonesia.
"This includes plans to provide AI training to 840 thousand participants and 10 thousand application developers," he noted.
Wamen Nezar Patria hopes that collaboration from all parties can create a safe and inclusive AI ecosystem and contribute to Indonesia's progress through AI technology utilization.
"Mastery of AI is crucial. We prepare our younger generation, collaborate with the global community to create safe and inclusive AI, and especially for Indonesia, we prepare and utilize this AI technology to realize a more connected, digital, and advanced Indonesia," he concluded.
