Jakarta, INTI - IDPRO is an organization that serves as a platform for stakeholders in the data center industry in Indonesia. It was established in 2016 by Hendra Suryakusuma, who has also served as the Chairman of IDPRO to this day. In addition to Hendra, several other key figures involved in the founding of IDPRO include Toto Sugiri, Prof. Kalamullah Ramli, Richard Kartawidjaja, and Teddy Sukardi. The presence of IDPRO is crucial in supporting the advancement of the data center industry, as the rapid development of digitalization requires strong collaboration among industry players.
The background of IDPRO’s establishment stems from the concerns of its founders regarding the state of the data center industry in Indonesia, which at the time was seen as unprepared to face global challenges. In an interview with Inti Media, Hendra Suryakusuma mentioned that the sector needed more significant support, especially in terms of regulations, investment, and human resource development. By founding IDPRO, the founders hoped to promote standardization, increase collaboration, and position Indonesia as one of the key players in the data center industry in Southeast Asia.
The Origins of IDPRO’s Establishment
IDPRO was established out of concerns regarding the negative perceptions surrounding Indonesia’s preparedness in the data center industry. According to Hendra Suryakusuma, Chairman of IDPRO, at that time, there were many black campaigns claiming that Indonesia lacked adequate data center infrastructure, including competent operational teams and management.
"The establishment was indeed born from concerns, as there were many black campaigns stating that Indonesia was unprepared for data center infrastructure, operational teams, and management," said Mr. Hendra.
These concerns prompted the founders to create IDPRO as an effort to improve the quality and competitiveness of Indonesia’s data center industry on the global stage. Through this organization, they aimed to build a more solid ecosystem, educate the public, and demonstrate that Indonesia is capable of meeting global standards in the data center sector.
The Motivation Behind Establishing IDPRO
The purpose of establishing IDPRO was to showcase the readiness of Indonesia’s data center industry in supporting the infrastructure needs of both foreign and local companies. Hendra Suryakusuma, Chairman of IDPRO, explained that their goal was for both the government and international parties to see that Indonesia has the capacity to meet global demands and become a strategic partner of the government.
“This is all to show the government and foreign parties that the industry in Indonesia is ready to support both foreign and local infrastructure wishing to enter Indonesia. We want to be a strategic partner to the government to ensure that the standards set in the data center industry align with the best practices worldwide," he continued.
IDPRO is committed to ensuring that the standards applied in Indonesia’s data center industry conform to global best practices, in order to drive investment and the growth of the technology sector in the country.
The Development of IDPRO
IDPRO has developed alongside the growth of the data center industry in Indonesia, which has experienced significant increases in recent years. Since its inception, Indonesia’s data center industry has made rapid progress, reflected in the substantial increase in power capacity. According to Hendra Suryakusuma, Chairman of IDPRO, in 2016, the available power capacity was only around 32 megawatts, but it has now grown to over 280 megawatts.
"At that time, we only had 6 members. In 2016, we had around 32 megawatts, and now we’ve grown to 14-15 members with a capacity of about 280 megawatts," said Mr. Hendra.
This success is largely attributed to the contribution of the 14 to 15 active members of IDPRO, highlighting the important role the organization plays in strengthening the data center sector in Indonesia.
