China’s FP-985 Taurus Logistics Drone Completes 1,100-Kilometer Flight Across the Sichuan–Tibet Plateau

5 months ago | Drone Industry

Jakarta, INTI - China’s domestically developed fixed-wing heavy drone, the FP-985 Taurus, successfully completed a long-range logistics flight across the high-altitude regions between Sichuan and Tibet on Wednesday, January 14, 2026.

The flight transported a variety of local specialty products, including buttered tea and yak milk, from Nyingchhi City in the Tibet Autonomous Region to Beichuan Qiang Autonomous Prefecture in Sichuan Province.

Covering a distance of over 1,100 kilometers, the mission represents China’s first successful validation of large-scale drone logistics operations in high-altitude environments.

The FP-985 Taurus drone was developed by Aerospace Times Feipeng Co., Ltd. and is engineered to operate in challenging environments such as high-altitude regions, archipelagos, and areas with complex geographical conditions.

The drone has a maximum takeoff weight of 5.7 tons, a payload capacity exceeding two tons, and a flight range of more than 2,000 kilometers.

Capable of transporting cargo over long distances in extreme conditions, the FP-985 Taurus can operate from cold highlands to salt-fog-exposed island regions. It supports short takeoffs and landings at standard airports and can also operate flexibly from airstrips with limited infrastructure.

All Weather Operational Capabilities

The FP-985 Taurus drone is designed to operate in all weather conditions, equipped with anti-icing and de-icing systems, lightning protection, and resistance to strong winds.

The success of this flight is expected to enhance low-altitude logistics in Sichuan and Tibet, facilitating the transport of agricultural products.

Moreover, this achievement is seen as having the potential to boost economic growth in western China and strengthen emergency response capabilities in remote areas.

Conclusion

The FP-985 Taurus demonstrated China’s growing capabilities in high-performance drone logistics, combining all weather operational resilience with the potential to support regional economic development and critical supply chains in challenging environments.
