Jakarta, INTI - PT Solusi Sinergi Digital Tbk (WIFI), through its subsidiary PT Telemedia Komunikasi Pratama (Telemedia), has officially launched "Internet Rakyat" (IRA). Simultaneously debuting across Region I (Java, Maluku, and Papua), this affordable home internet service aims to shake up the national fixed broadband industry by targeting a massive market of over 70 million underserved households.
Bridging the Digital Divide in the Fixed Broadband Sector
Shannedy Ong, President Director of Telemedia and Director of WIFI, pointed out that Indonesia's fixed broadband penetration sits at a low 20–22%, mostly capturing the premium segment. While the country's overall internet penetration has reached 85%, it is heavily dominated by mobile data rather than home connections. This stark contrast leaves a vast middle-to-lower-class market disconnected or underserved compared to neighboring countries where fixed broadband penetration exceeds 50%.
To capture this immense potential, IRA offers high-speed home internet up to 100 Mbps for just IDR 100,000 per month. If the service successfully secures 5 million subscribers by 2026, it is projected to generate a substantial new revenue stream for the company.
To make this low-cost, high-quality model viable, WIFI is breaking away from traditional ISP frameworks. The company has completely redesigned its network architecture, utilizing distinct network designs and split ratios, and collaborated with local ISPs through a revenue-sharing model. According to Ong, this innovative approach allows them to drastically cut costs and offer prices that traditional operators simply cannot match.
Conclusion
By shifting the industry paradigm from premium-focused services to high-volume, affordable connectivity, WIFI’s "Internet Rakyat" is strategically positioned to capture Indonesia's vast underserved mass market. Leveraging unique network architecture and local ISP partnerships, the company not only creates a highly scalable revenue stream for itself but also serves as a crucial catalyst for boosting the nation's lagging fixed broadband penetration.
