Jakarta, INTI - Universitas Riau (Unri) and PT EZGO Technology Indonesia have established a partnership through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) regarding a Smart & Electric Bike Project on the Unri campus. The signing took place on Thursday, August 27, 2026.
This partnership aims to foster the development of a smart, efficient, modern, and eco-friendly mobility ecosystem within the campus grounds.
Vice Rector for Planning, Cooperation, and Information Systems, Dr. Ir. Sofyan Husein Siregar, M.Phil., expressed appreciation to PT EZGO Technology Indonesia for their initiative, trust, and commitment to collaborating with Unri.
According to him, the partnership is not merely about providing electric bicycles. It is part of an effort to build a campus mobility ecosystem that is smarter, more efficient, and modern, while also being oriented toward environmental sustainability.
"As a higher education institution with a large academic community and dynamic activities, Unri has significant mobility needs within the campus area. Students, lecturers, and administrative staff move between locations daily, traveling between faculties, the library, laboratories, the student activity center, and various campus support facilities," he said.
Promoting Smart Mobility
Sofyan added that the availability of practical, efficient, and eco-friendly transportation alternatives is increasingly relevant to the needs of the modern campus. Through this partnership, Unri and PT EZGO Technology Indonesia will open opportunities to conduct comprehensive studies on smart mobility models suited to the characteristics and needs of the campus area.
Potential development areas to be explored include electric bicycle services within the campus, rental or shared electric bike systems, the provision of charging stations, the development of service centers and after-sales support, the use of digital technology for mobility management, and the development of infrastructure supporting the electric vehicle ecosystem.
Furthermore, he hopes that the partnership will yield direct benefits for the academic community. The introduction of electric bicycles is expected to provide a more practical and economical transportation alternative for students, while also facilitating mobility for lecturers and administrative staff.
The partnership with PT EZGO Technology Indonesia is expected to grow progressively and serve as a prime example of synergy between higher education and the business sector in delivering tangible solutions to societal needs and addressing sustainability challenges.
