Jakarta, INTI - Advances in medical technology are creating new opportunities for improving cancer treatment for women, particularly in the field of gynecological oncology. In support of Indonesia’s Golden Vision 2045, Professor Dr. Brahmana Askandar Tjokroprawiro, a Professor at the Faculty of Medicine, is promoting the integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI), robotic surgery, and precision therapy to enhance healthcare services from diagnosis to patient monitoring.
Professor Brahmana emphasized that AI enables computer systems to recognize patterns and process information to support various stages of healthcare delivery, including early detection, diagnosis, treatment planning, prognosis prediction, and clinical decision-making.
"The development of multimodal AI enables the simultaneous processing of different types of data, such as clinical texts, medical imaging results, and molecular information. This has the potential to provide more comprehensive insights when determining the most appropriate treatment for patients," he explained during his inaugural professorial lecture at the Garuda Mukti Hall, Management Office Building, MERR-C Campus, UNAIR.
Robotic Surgery Technology
Professor Brahmana explained that robotic surgery offers high-resolution three-dimensional visualization and articulated instruments that mimic human wrist movements, providing a wider range of motion than conventional laparoscopic instruments.
"These technical advantages can improve surgical precision, while the benefits for patients must be assessed based on cancer types, procedures performed, and available clinical evidence," he added on Wednesday, November 4, 2026.
Furthermore, he noted that the success of robotic surgery depends heavily on surgeons' competencies and the readiness of the medical teams operating the technology. Therefore, the development of robotic surgery services must be accompanied by structured education and training programs.
"The learning process can begin with theoretical knowledge and simulation exercises, followed by observation and participation as a bedside assistant, before progressing to performing surgical procedures under the supervision of experienced surgeons," he emphasized.
Precision Therapy
Professor Brahmana further explained that the ultimate goal of AI-driven data processing is to support the implementation of more effective precision therapy.
AI helps integrate clinical information and medical examination results to determine treatments that best match the biological and molecular characteristics of each patient's cancer.
"Mastering and integrating these medical technology innovations is expected not only to strengthen national healthcare independence but also to ensure that every Indonesian woman has equitable access to the latest medical treatments, contributing to the realization of the Golden Generation 2045," he concluded.
Conclusion
The integration of AI, robotic surgery, and precision therapy at UNAIR represents a significant step toward advancing women's cancer treatment in Indonesia. By improving diagnosis, surgical precision, and personalized treatment, these innovations aim to strengthen national healthcare capabilities and ensure more equitable access to advanced medical services ahead of Indonesia’s Golden Vision 2045.
