South Korean Company Targets Asia-Pacific Expansion Amid Rising Demand for AI Infrastructure

39 minutes ago | Data Center

Jakarta, INTI - South Korean technology company LG CNS has completed the construction of a 30-megawatt (MW) hyperscale Artificial Intelligence (AI) data center in Jakarta, marking its first overseas AI data center project developed for a local client.

The company announced on Monday that the facility had secured customers for its entire capacity even before construction was completed.

Commissioned last year by KMG, a joint venture between Indonesia's Sinar Mas Group and Korea Investment Real Asset Management, the project represents LG CNS' entry into international markets by leveraging its data center design, build, and operate (DBO) expertise.

The facility is engineered to accommodate high-performance computing workloads powered by next-generation graphics processing units (GPUs). To address the significant heat generated by AI servers, LG CNS implemented a hybrid cooling system that combines air and liquid cooling technologies.

The initial phase operates with air-cooling technology, while liquid cooling will be introduced in subsequent development stages to accommodate high-density AI server environments.

LG CNS has also deployed a power infrastructure capable of delivering more than 300 kilowatts per rack, approximately 60 times the power capacity typically required by conventional data center racks.

The facility incorporates redundant power systems designed to maintain uninterrupted 24-hour operations, even if the primary power supply experiences disruptions.

Integrated One LG Solution Supports Advanced AI Infrastructure

The project incorporates an integrated One LG solution that combines the technological capabilities of multiple LG Group affiliates.

LG CNS contributed its data center DBO expertise, while LG Electronics supplied air-conditioning systems and LG Energy Solution provided battery solutions. This collaboration enables the integrated deployment of power, cooling, and energy infrastructure.

LG CNS is now developing the next phase of the project, which is expected to increase the facility's total power capacity to 400 MW upon completion, potentially positioning it among Indonesia's largest AI data center developments.

LG CNS Targets AI Data Center Expansion Across Asia-Pacific

Building on its experience in Indonesia, LG CNS plans to expand its AI data center operations across the Asia-Pacific region, targeting markets including Malaysia, Thailand, Vietnam, the Philippines, and Japan.

The company, recognized as South Korea's largest data center operator, has also broadened its domestic business portfolio beyond traditional colocation and DBO services.

Its expanded offerings include prefabricated modular data centers, GPU-as-a-Service (GPUaaS), and liquid-cooling infrastructure.

LG CNS intends to leverage these capabilities to further develop its AI factory business, integrating AI platforms and services into comprehensive infrastructure solutions.

"Completing the AI data center in Indonesia is a meaningful achievement, demonstrating our ability to bring the expertise we have developed in Korea to overseas customers and strengthening our competitiveness in the global market," LG CNS CEO Hyun Shin-kyoon said.

"Building on this achievement, we will expand our AI data center and AI factory businesses in global markets, particularly across the Asia-Pacific region, where demand for AI computing is surging."

Conclusion

LG CNS' completion of its 30 MW AI data center in Jakarta marks a significant step in strengthening Indonesia's AI infrastructure landscape while opening new opportunities for international investment. With plans to scale the facility's capacity to 400 MW and expand across the Asia-Pacific region, the company is positioning itself to capitalize on rising demand for AI computing, hyperscale data centers, and advanced cooling technologies.
