UAE Ambassador Meets with MPR Leader Eddy Soeparno to Discuss Renewable Energy Cooperation

23 hours ago | Green Industrial

Jakarta, INTI - Indonesia's renewable energy projects are increasingly attracting global attention. Starting with the Cirata Reservoir in West Java, green energy cooperation between Indonesia and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) is now moving to a larger scale, as plans to expand investment in the solar power sector are underway.

Amid the unstable geopolitical situation in the Middle East, the UAE Ambassador to Indonesia, Abdulla Salem Al Dhaheri, met with the Deputy Speaker of the People's Consultative Assembly (MPR), Eddy Soeparno, in Jakarta. The meeting on Wednesday, April 15, was a continuation of previous communications, including Eddy's discussions with the UAE Minister of Energy, Suhail Al Mazrouei, in Abu Dhabi in early 2026.

This year marks the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Indonesia and the UAE, a momentum both countries are using to accelerate the realization of various agreements, particularly in the green energy sector. One concrete result of this collaboration is the construction of a floating solar power plant (PLTS) in Cirata, managed by UAE clean energy company Masdar.

Support for Indonesia’s Energy Transition Plans

According to Eddy, this project aligns with the government's target to develop solar power capacity to 100 gigawatts (GW) to achieve national energy independence. Support from the UAE is considered crucial to increase clean energy capacity, open opportunities for technology transfer, improve human resource quality, and strengthen Indonesia's position in the global green energy supply chain.

In terms of regulations, MPR is also pushing for accelerated deliberation of several strategic bills to support energy transition, such as the New and Renewable Energy Bill, the Oil and Gas Bill, and the Climate Change Management Bill.

Meanwhile, Al Dhaheri expressed his appreciation for Indonesia's support for UAE investment in the clean energy sector and reaffirmed his country's commitment to continue contributing to Indonesia’s energy transition.

This collaboration demonstrates that amid global uncertainty, green energy represents a meeting point for the strategic interests of both countries, while strengthening Indonesia's position on the global energy stage.

Conclusion

Renewable energy cooperation between Indonesia and the United Arab Emirates is further strengthened through plans to expand solar energy investment, particularly the floating solar power plant project at Cirata Reservoir, West Java. This collaboration opens opportunities for technology transfer, human resource development, and strengthens Indonesia's position in the global green energy supply chain amid geopolitical uncertainty. As well as supporting the government’s targets to achieve national energy independence.
