Jakarta, INTI - AMD announced the expansion of its long-term strategic partnership with Microsoft. This collaboration includes the deployment of AMD graphics processing units (GPUs), central processing units (CPUs), networking technologies, and software on the Microsoft Azure cloud platform to accelerate the adoption of artificial intelligence (AI) at scale.
A key focus of this expansion is Microsoft's deployment of the AMD Helios Rackscale Solution. This integrated infrastructure is specifically designed to handle frontier AI model training and inference workloads.
This facility will support Microsoft's internal operations, its AI customers, and Azure AI services. AMD Helios combines the power of the AMD Instinct MI455X GPU, AMD EPYC Venice CPU, Pensando networking technology, and ROCm software. AMD is scheduled to begin shipping this Helios solution in the second half of 2026.
AMD’s Chair and CEO, Lisa Su, stated that this collaboration is a significant milestone in delivering computing solutions to Azure customers while simultaneously scaling the next-generation AI infrastructure.
Azure Platform’s Portfolio
Meanwhile, Microsoft’s CEO, Satya Nadella, emphasized that the integration of AMD Helios expands the Azure portfolio to provide the performance, scale, and flexibility customers need to build future AI applications.
In addition to the Helios solution, Azure will also introduce two new Virtual Machine (VM) series powered by 6th Gen AMD EPYC Venice processors. The Azure HDv2 series is specifically developed to support agentic AI and data pipeline management, while the Azure HXv2 series is designed for semiconductor design needs. This significantly expands the Azure computing portfolio for engineering and data workloads.
This partnership also touches the cloud computing network layer. Microsoft is expanding the deployment of AMD Pensando Data Processing Units (DPUs) on its Azure AI network infrastructure.
By integrating AMD technology with Azure Boost, the two companies are working to optimize network performance, energy efficiency, and connection processing at massive cloud scale.
