Jakarta, INTI - PT PLN Energi Primer Indonesia (PLN EPI) and eFUELS SEA Pte. Ltd., a Singapore-based company, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to explore the development of a cross-border green hydrogen supply chain from Indonesia to Singapore, while also exploring opportunities for collaboration in the development of the eFuels and green hydrogen ecosystem to support the acceleration of achieving the Net Zero Emissions (NZE) target.
The signing took place during the Global Hydrogen Ecosystem Summit (GHES) 2026 on Tuesday, July 21. The MoU was signed by Hokkop Situngkir, PLN EPI’s Director of Biomass, and David Wang, eFUELS SEA’s CEO and Director.
Strengthening National Hydrogen Ecosystem
Hokkop Situngkir stated that this collaboration is a strategic step for PLN EPI to strengthen the development of Indonesia's green hydrogen ecosystem and open up opportunities for the formation of a cross-border clean energy supply chain.
"Indonesia has enormous renewable energy potential to be developed into green hydrogen. Together with eFUELS SEA, we want to comprehensively assess this potential, from production, infrastructure, logistics, to business models, so we can build a competitive and sustainable green hydrogen supply chain for the regional market," said Hokkop.
He said that this collaboration is part of PLN EPI's commitment to expanding the development of low-carbon primary energy to support the national energy transition.
"This MoU serves as a foundation for exploring opportunities for developing green hydrogen and eFuels, which we hope can be realized in concrete projects in the future. We believe that cross-border collaboration will be key to accelerating the achievement of the Net Zero Emissions target while creating added value from Indonesia's renewable energy potential," he explained.
Combining National Resources and eFUELS SEA's Experience
Meanwhile, David Wang stated that Indonesia has great potential to become a green hydrogen production hub in the region thanks to its abundant renewable energy resources.
"We see Indonesia as a strategic partner in developing a regional green hydrogen supply chain. Through our collaboration with PLN EPI, we hope to combine Indonesia's renewable energy potential with eFUELS SEA's experience in developing eFuels projects and technology to deliver a commercially viable decarbonization solution," said David.
He added that demand for green hydrogen and eFuels is expected to continue to increase as various countries commit to reducing carbon emissions, especially in sectors that are difficult to electrify.
"We are optimistic that this collaboration can be the beginning of the development of cross-border green hydrogen projects that can support the energy transition in the Asia Pacific region while strengthening a sustainable green hydrogen ecosystem," he said.
Through the MoU, both parties will conduct a joint study on the development of a green hydrogen supply chain from Indonesia to Singapore, as well as joint research and pilot projects for the development of green hydrogen and eFuels.
Furthermore, both companies will evaluate the potential for developing renewable energy-based electricity sources, along with aspects of traceability and sustainability, to support the long-term supply of green hydrogen for the regional market.
