Telkom (TLKM) Targets Completion of Fiber Optic Business Spin Off by Mid 2026

1 month ago | Network Infrastructure

Jakarta, INTI - Under its new leadership, PT Telkom Indonesia Tbk (TLKM) is preparing a plan to spin off its fiber optic infrastructure business unit, Infranexia.

Telkom Group currently operates around 180,000 kilometers of fiber optic network, equivalent to circling the Earth four times. However, these assets have so far been utilized primarily for internal operations within the group.

Telkom’s Director of Finance and Risk Management, Arthur Angelo Syailendra, stated that the fiber optic spin-off is a top strategic priority for the company’s management.

"This is one of our key priorities to execute properly, build a strong management team, and begin expanding into other regions," he said on Monday, August 11, 2025.

Asset Transfer and Expansion Strategy

Going forward, all fiber optic assets of Telkom Group will be managed under PT Telkom Infrastruktur Indonesia (Infranexia), which is set to evolve into an independent company rather than remaining a business unit.

In the first phase, by the end of 2025, approximately 50%–54% of the total assets, valued at Rp150 trillion, will be transferred to Infranexia. Angelo targets the full transfer to be completed by mid-2026.

Once separated, the infrastructure will be opened to external players, including around 1,300 internet service providers (ISPs) across Indonesia, as well as global technology companies such as Google and Microsoft.

"Technology companies like Google and Microsoft are highly reliant on fiber connectivity to reach end users," Angelo noted.

He added that the spin-off of the fiber optic infrastructure unit is expected to become the largest restructuring initiative within Telkom Group, following the establishment of PT Dayamitra Telekomunikasi Tbk (MTEL), which focuses on telecommunications tower assets.

Conclusion

The planned spin-off of Telkom’s fiber optic infrastructure marks a significant step in unlocking asset value and strengthening Indonesia’s digital backbone. By transforming Infranexia into an independent entity and opening access to broader industry players, Telkom is positioning itself to accelerate network expansion, enhance efficiency, and support the growing demand for high-speed connectivity across the country.
