Jakarta, INTI - The rapid development of artificial intelligence (AI) and exponential computing is transforming data center infrastructure requirements in Indonesia. The shift covers everything from computing capacity and bandwidth to connectivity and increasingly sophisticated cooling systems.
IDPRO Chairman Hendra Suryakusuma said these changing requirements mean data center development can no longer rely on the same approaches used in the past.
Digital infrastructure will also require support and coordination across multiple sectors to keep pace with technological advancements.
“With the emergence of AI and exponential computing, the way we build data centers has changed significantly, from computing and bandwidth requirements to connectivity and increasingly advanced cooling systems,” Hendra said during the “Future Outlook: Indonesia as a Digital Hub” forum at the IEE Series 2026 on Wednesday, September 2, 2026.
Driving Cross-Sector Collaboration
According to Hendra, developing Indonesia’s digital infrastructure requires collaboration among the government, regulators, telecommunications companies, educational institutions, hyperscalers, and cloud service providers.
The involvement of multiple stakeholders is essential to ensure that data center ecosystem development keeps pace with the needs of the technology sector and the broader digital economy.
“We need a collaborative strategy involving various stakeholders, including the government and regulators, telecommunications companies, educational institutions, hyperscalers, and cloud providers,” he added.
Such collaboration must also be reflected in infrastructure development that takes Indonesia’s geographical position into account. Located between several major economic regions, Indonesia has a strategic opportunity to strengthen its role as a regional connectivity hub.
Strengthening Connectivity Infrastructure
Realizing this opportunity will require infrastructure capable of maintaining reliable and sustainable connectivity. Data center development therefore needs to go hand in hand with stronger networks and supporting infrastructure to reduce reliance on a single route or connection point.
“This also requires contributions from various sectors to support the development,” Hendra concluded.
The discussion was part of the “Future Outlook: Indonesia as a Digital Hub” forum, which brought together industry players and stakeholders to examine the development of Indonesia’s digital ecosystem.
The changing infrastructure requirements driven by AI are becoming a key factor prompting the industry to reassess the readiness and resilience of Indonesia’s national data center infrastructure.
