Telkom Indonesia Strengthens the Foundation of National Digital Independence

8 hours ago | Data Center and Cloud Computing

Jakarta, INTI - Telkom Indonesia hosted the Indonesia Tech Sovereignty Forum 2026 themed “The Rise of Indonesia Tech Sovereignty” on Wednesday, May 20, 2026, at Telkom Landmark Tower. The forum served as a strategic cross-sector collaboration platform aimed at strengthening Indonesia’s technological sovereignty through three main pillars: Cloud Sovereignty, AI Sovereignty, and Cybersecurity Sovereignty. The initiative seeks to accelerate the development of a more independent, secure, and globally competitive national digital ecosystem.

The forum brought together key stakeholders from government, industry, and technology sectors, including Director General of Digital Ecosystem at Indonesia’s Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs Edwin Hidayat Abdullah, Managing Director of Strategic Technology Initiatives at Danantara Indonesia Ricardo Irwan Rei, Deputy IV for Cybersecurity and Economic Cryptography at BSSN Slamet Aji Pamungkas, Telkom’s Director of Strategic Business Development and Portfolio Seno Soemadji, and Accenture APAC’s Managing Director for Gen AI and Sovereign AI Lead Kunal Shah.

Their participation highlighted the growing importance of cross-sector collaboration in strengthening Indonesia’s technology sovereignty amid the rapid pace of global digital transformation.

Strengthening Indonesia’s Digital Sovereignty

As digital technology adoption continues to rise, the issue of sovereignty has become an increasing concern for many countries. Dependence on global infrastructure, platforms, and technologies is no longer viewed solely as a technological matter, but also as a critical issue related to economic resilience, data security, and national strategic interests.

These developments underscore the importance of building a sovereign digital ecosystem to ensure that national data, infrastructure, AI capabilities, and cybersecurity remain under Indonesia’s jurisdiction, legal framework, and strategic control. Through the forum, Telkom encouraged stronger national collaboration so Indonesia can evolve beyond being merely a digital market into a country capable of developing, managing, and monetizing its own digital assets and technological capabilities. This effort is expected to strengthen Indonesia’s position within the global digital economy value chain.

Through the Indonesia Tech Sovereignty Forum 2026, Telkom aims to encourage broader collaboration and collective action toward strengthening Indonesia’s technological sovereignty while reinforcing a national digital foundation capable of generating economic value, innovation opportunities, and sustainable competitiveness at both regional and global levels.

Cross-Sector Collaboration Becomes Key

Director General of Digital Ecosystem at the Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs Edwin Hidayat Abdullah stated that national digital transformation is not only about accelerating technology adoption, but also about ensuring Indonesia possesses the capacity, resilience, and control over its own digital infrastructure and ecosystem. He emphasized that cross-sector collaboration is essential for Indonesia to move beyond being solely a consumer of global technologies and become a nation with strong and sustainable domestic digital capabilities.

From the perspective of cybersecurity and national data protection, BSSN Deputy IV Slamet Aji Pamungkas stressed the importance of maintaining national control over strategic data and digital systems. He noted that strategic national data should be managed within Indonesia’s jurisdiction to ensure operational oversight, ownership, and optimal security control, including mastery of encryption systems as a crucial element of national data protection while remaining open to global technological advancements.

Echoing this vision, Telkom Director of Strategic Business Development and Portfolio Seno Soemadji stated that Indonesia’s digital transformation momentum should serve as a turning point for strengthening the country’s role within the global technology ecosystem. According to him, Indonesia has significant potential not only to become a digital market, but also to play a key role in building the regional technology ecosystem. Strengthening Indonesia’s cloud, AI, and cybersecurity capabilities, he added, is essential to ensuring that national data, intelligence, and digital economic value continue to grow and provide greater benefits for the country.

The Indonesia Tech Sovereignty Forum 2026 addressed a range of strategic topics, including sovereign cloud infrastructure, the development of AI tailored to the Indonesian context, strengthening national cyber resilience, and expanding digital talent capacity as part of efforts to build long-term technological independence and competitiveness.

AdyaCakra and the Future of Indonesia’s Digital Ecosystem

Beyond serving as a strategic dialogue platform, the forum also marked the launch of the Charter of Digital Sovereignty, representing a collective commitment to advancing Indonesia’s national technology ecosystem. During the event, Telkom also introduced the AdyaCakra initiative as part of its sovereign cloud, sovereign AI, and sovereign cybersecurity development strategy aimed at strengthening Indonesia’s role as both a developer and driver of the regional digital ecosystem.

Seno added that AdyaCakra is expected to contribute to strengthening Indonesia’s digital sovereignty foundation while supporting national economic growth through the development of a stronger, more adaptive, and globally competitive digital economy ecosystem.

As part of the company’s TLKM 30 transformation strategy, Telkom continues to strengthen its role as an orchestrator of Indonesia’s national digital ecosystem through the development of digital infrastructure, platforms, and technological capabilities to meet the growing demand for digital services.

This vision of technological sovereignty is also aligned with Telkom’s ongoing efforts to adopt and expand AI capabilities through its five AI Center of Excellence (AI CoE) pillars. To build a national AI ecosystem, Telkom collaborates with universities for research and talent development through AI Campus, provides creative spaces for developers through AI Playground, fosters community engagement through AI Connect, delivers proven AI solutions for industries and society through AI Hub, and implements AI across internal operations through AI Native. Through these continuous initiatives, Telkom aims not only to strengthen national data protection and digital sovereignty, but also to create tangible benefits for both society and industry.

Conclusion

Through the Indonesia Tech Sovereignty Forum 2026, Telkom Indonesia reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening Indonesia’s digital sovereignty by fostering collaboration across sectors and accelerating the development of sovereign cloud, AI, and cybersecurity capabilities. The initiative reflects Indonesia’s ambition to build a more resilient, independent, and globally competitive digital ecosystem while creating sustainable economic value and technological innovation for the future.
