Jakarta, INTI - The Indonesian government continues to expand and strengthen its partnership with China in the development of artificial intelligence (AI) and the digital economy to accelerate national economic transformation.
According to a press release from the Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs, this collaboration covers several strategic sectors, including the semiconductor industry, data centers, digital infrastructure, and technology talent development.
Indonesia's commitment to strengthening global AI collaboration is evidenced by its participation as a founding member of the World Artificial Intelligence Cooperation Organization (WAICO). Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto also signed the WAICO Declaration in Shanghai on July 16, 2026.
In addition to strengthening cooperation in AI, Indonesia is also opening bigger investment opportunities for Chinese companies in the digital economy sector. The government is encouraging investment in the development of semiconductors, fiber-optic networks, digital applications, and data center infrastructure, which are considered essential foundations for national digital transformation.
Collaboraiton in Other Sectors
Airlangga emphasized that Indonesia is open to collaboration with various global partners, including China, in trade, investment, services, and education.
"We are open to collaborating with global partners, including China, both for trade investment, services, and education. And I invite Chinese businesses to continue investing in Indonesia, especially in sectors with high added value," said Airlangga during a courtesy call by the Chinese Business Delegation and the Indonesian Ambassador to China on Thursday, July 23, 2026.
Cooperation between the two countries has also expanded into education and human resource development. The Indonesian government has collaborated with Tsinghua University through various research activities and seminars in the Bali Special Economic Zone (SEZ), which are expected to support talent development in technology and innovation.
Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs Spokesperson Haryo Limanseto stated that the economic relationship between Indonesia and China is now increasingly broad and comprehensive. He stated that the government will continue to open opportunities for mutually beneficial cooperation, not only in trade and investment, but also in the industrial, education, digital economy, and technology sectors.
