Telkom and PGN to Integrate Digital Infrastructure and Low-Carbon Energy Supplies

3 days ago | Green Industrial

Jakarta, INTI - PT Telkom Indonesia (Persero) Tbk and PT Perusahaan Gas Negara (PGN) have established a strategic partnership through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to integrate digital infrastructure with low-carbon energy supplies.

This collaboration represents a concrete step in accelerating the development of a green energy-based digital ecosystem, particularly to support sustainable data center operations. The MoU was signed by Telkom President Director Dian Siswarini and PGN President Director Arief Kurnia Risdianto in Jakarta on Friday, April 10, 2026.

Reliable Green Energy from Palm Oil Waste

In this collaboration, Telkom plays a role in developing a digital ecosystem and data centers that require low-emission energy supplies, including biomethane. Meanwhile, PGN provides the energy supply through the utilization of biomethane produced from palm oil waste in the Sumatra region. This collaboration includes joint studies and exploring the implementation of green energy for TelkomGroup data centers, both domestically and internationally.

This initiative provides a crucial foundation for ensuring the availability of reliable green energy, a key factor in the development of a new generation of efficient and environmentally friendly data centers.

"This collaboration supports clean and efficient energy readiness for sustainable data center development, while strengthening Indonesia's digital sovereignty and promoting Indonesia as a regional digital hub. This aligns with TelkomGroup's ambition to become a digital infrastructure powerhouse in the region," said Dian Siswarini.

Support for National Energy Transition

In Indonesia, there are five strategic locations for TelkomGroup data center development that have the potential to be supported by PGN's energy supply, which are Cikarang, Batam, Serpong, Sentul, and Surabaya. These areas are already connected to PGN's gas pipeline network, enabling optimization of existing infrastructure.

Arief Kurnia Risdianto emphasized that biomethane is a crucial part of PGN's transformation into a low-carbon energy provider.

"PGN has gone beyond simply providing conventional natural gas to become a clean energy provider that serves as the foundation for future infrastructure. This biomethane initiative for data centers opens up new value-added opportunities while supporting the national energy transition," said Arief.

The signing of this MoU is a significant step for TelkomGroup in affirming its role as a driver of a globally competitive national digital ecosystem, while also strengthening PGN's position as a provider of low-carbon energy for future digital infrastructure.

Conclusion

PT Telkom Indonesia and PT Perusahaan Gas Negara (PGN) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to integrate digital infrastructure with low-carbon energy, specifically biomethane, to support sustainable data center operations. In this collaboration, Telkom focuses on developing the digital ecosystem and data centers, while PGN provides green energy supplies. This collaboration is expected to strengthen digital transformation and the national energy transition, while simultaneously propelling Indonesia to become a regional digital hub and supporting the development of efficient and environmentally friendly green data centers.
