Jakarta, INTI - The Village Electrification Program (Program Listrik Desa) is considered a crucial part of the planned 100-gigawatt (GW) Solar Power Plant (PLTS) development, which will soon enter its initial phase. In addition to expanding electricity access, this program is expected to promote equitable development and open up new economic opportunities in various regions.
Dewi Yustisiana, a member of the Indonesia House of Representatives (DPR RI), said that the program demonstrates that energy sector development is directed not only at expanding infrastructure and increasing the electrification ratio.
But it also creates added economic value, improves the quality of public services, and strengthens equitable national development. As well as supporting the development of MSMEs, agriculture, fisheries, education, healthcare, and the digital economy in villages.
On the other hand, Dewi assessed that the remaining approximately 11,000 villages without access to electricity represent a challenge that needs to be addressed gradually through integrated planning, sustainable funding support, and synergy between the central government, local governments, PT PLN (Persero), and all stakeholders.
Integration of the Two Projects
Similarly, Fabby Tumiwa, CEO of the Institute for Essential Services Reform (IESR), supports the 100 GW solar power plant development plan, but emphasizes that the Village Electrification Program needs to be an integral part of the project's implementation.
"Village electrification should no longer be viewed simply as fulfilling the electrification ratio statistical indicator, but rather as a means of meeting the energy needs of all Indonesians," said Fabby.
He explained that through the Solar Archipelago approach, electrification of island regions and the frontier, outermost, and underdeveloped (3T) regions will be part of the 100 GW solar power plant development. He believes that integrating the two programs will not only expand access to clean energy but also encourage rural economic growth and accelerate a more equitable energy transition.
Conclusion

Village electrification can increase community productivity, support MSMEs, agriculture, fisheries, education, healthcare, and the digital economy.
