Jakarta, INTI - Jakarta Deputy Governor Rano Karno emphasized that the city does not want to miss the economic opportunities created by the rapid advancement of Artificial Intelligence (AI), particularly in strengthening the creative economy sector.
Rano delivered the statement during the CEO Forum session at the Asia Pacific Video Operators Summit (APOS) 2026 in Nusa Dua, Bali, on Tuesday, June 16, 2026, where industry leaders discussed the future development of AI and its projected impact over the next two decades.
Jakarta Prepares AI Talent
Rano stated that AI has already generated significant economic impact in global markets and should be embraced by Jakarta as a global, cultural, and creative city.
"In the development of creative economy subsectors, especially the film industry, AI is no longer just an inevitable technology. It has already created real economic impacts in global markets, and Jakarta must seize this opportunity," he said.
According to him, Jakarta must go beyond simply adapting to technological advancements and focus on developing human resources capable of driving the AI industry.
"We do not only want to be a market but also a key player. Jakarta must prepare AI talents to develop the industry. We have vocational schools that can become the starting point for nurturing these future talents," Rano explained.
Supporting Jakarta’s Vision as a Global Cinema City
During the forum, Asia Partners Co-Founder and Managing Partner Nick Nash highlighted that emerging markets continue to offer significant potential for the content industry.
He noted that the combination of powerful storytelling and AI technology will become an increasingly important trend over the next 20 years.
In response, Rano reaffirmed Jakarta’s readiness to seize this opportunity as part of its broader strategy to strengthen its position as a global city.
The Jakarta Provincial Government was also the only regional administration in Indonesia invited to collaborate with entertainment, content, and technology industry players from across the Asia Pacific region at APOS 2026.
Jakarta’s participation in the international forum reflects its commitment to realizing its vision of becoming a world-class cinema city capable of competing on the global stage.
Conclusion
Jakarta’s commitment to embracing AI reflects its ambition to become not just a technology consumer but a key player in the global AI-driven creative economy. By developing AI talent, fostering innovation, and integrating technology with storytelling, Jakarta aims to strengthen its position as a world-class creative and cinema city.
