Jakarta, INTI - The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) is evaluating the development of solar power plants (PLTS) along toll road sections as part of the program to develop 100 gigawatts of solar power capacity.
Tri Winarno, Acting Director General of Electricity at ESDM, stated that the initial phase of the project will begin at the Bali Mandara Toll Road. The government plans to utilize the land along the sides of the toll road for solar panel installations.
In addition to Bali Mandara, the government is preparing for solar power development along the Sedyatmo Toll Road, which connects Jakarta to Soekarno-Hatta International Airport. ESDM will also assess the potential for solar panel installation along the Trans-Jawa Toll Road.
Accelerating National Targets
This plan is part of the energy transition acceleration initiative launched by President Prabowo Subianto through a large-scale solar power development program. The government targets Indonesia's installed solar power capacity to reach 100 GW by 2029.
Prabowo emphasized the government's desire to accelerate the utilization of solar energy as a national electricity source over the next three years. Accelerating solar power development has become increasingly important amid rising global geopolitical uncertainty which could potentially impact the security of Indonesia's energy supply.
As a proactive measure, the government continues to bolster the utilization of domestic energy sources. In addition to solar power, Indonesia possesses significant geothermal energy potential and is continuously increasing the production of biofuels, such as 50 percent biodiesel (B50) and bioethanol, to support national energy security.
