Jakarta, INTI - Indonesia and Japan are strengthening their cooperation in transportation technology by developing telecommunications and signaling systems for the Jakarta MRT. This collaboration aims to enhance the safety, reliability, and modernization of railway transportation in Indonesia.
This strengthened partnership was marked by the signing of a Head of Agreement (HoA) between PT Moda Integrasi Transportasi Jabodetabek (MITJ) and Nippon Signal Co., Ltd. The signing took place in Tokyo, Japan, on August 3, 2026, and was facilitated by the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia in Tokyo.
The signing took place during the PT MITJ Business Matching Forum, organized by the Indonesian Embassy in Tokyo in collaboration with PT MITJ. The forum brought together PT MITJ and its strategic partner, PT Duta Sarana Perkasa (Dusaspun), with over ten Japanese companies to explore strategic partnerships for the Jakarta MRT Phase 3 (East–West Line) Precast Tunnel Segment project, involving companies specializing in precast concrete, Transit-Oriented Development (TOD), and railway technology.
Enhancing Jakarta MRT Project
In her remarks, Ambassador Nurmala Kartini Sjahrir noted that the Indonesia–Japan partnership in the transportation sector has been proven successful through the development of the Jakarta MRT. This collaboration is now entering a new phase with the East–West Line project, which is supported by Japanese ODA loans via JICA totaling over JPY 140 billion.
"MRT Jakarta stands as a tangible symbol of the friendship between Indonesia and Japan. The partnership signed today demonstrates that our cooperation extends beyond mere construction to encompass the safety and signaling technologies that protect millions of passengers daily," said Ambassador Kartini.
Meanwhile, Fuad I. Z. Fachroeddin, President Director of PT MITJ, emphasized that the collaboration with Nippon Signal represents a strategic move toward implementing world-class railway safety standards in Jabodetabek.
"Combining Japanese technological precision with Indonesia's trust and specific needs will yield a transportation system that is safer, more reliable, and fully integrated. This Head of Agreement establishes the foundation for a long-term collaboration between PT MITJ and Nippon Signal," said Fuad.
