Jakarta, INTI - Pertamina New and Renewable Energy (Pertamina NRE) has partnered with China-based clean and renewable energy company GCL Intelligent Energy Suzhou Co Ltd to develop energy transition projects in Indonesia.

The collaboration was formalized through the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) between Pertamina NRE CEO John Anis and Zhi Fei, Chairman of the Board of GCL Intelligent Energy.

The MoU signing took place at GCL Intelligent Energy’s office in Suzhou on Wednesday, January 7, 2026.

Pertamina NRE described the partnership as a strategic move aimed at accelerating the development of clean energy initiatives across Indonesia.

“The collaboration with GCL represents a strategic step by Pertamina NRE to accelerate the development of clean energy in Indonesia,” said John Anis.

The partnership opens opportunities for the development of waste-to-energy power plant projects in Indonesia.

In addition, the collaboration also covers the development of new and renewable energy as well as gas-based power generation projects.

All of these projects form part of a joint effort to support national emission reduction targets and strengthen energy security.

John Anis described the partnership as a concrete step toward building a sustainable clean energy ecosystem.

“We see significant potential in combining GCL’s global experience with Pertamina’s local capabilities and market insight to deliver sustainable and competitive energy solutions,” he said.

Focus on Waste-to-Energy and Advanced Renewable Technologies

Chairman of the Board of GCL Intelligent Energy, Fei Zhi, expressed his appreciation for the cooperation established with Pertamina NRE.

“We view Indonesia as one of the strategic markets in the development of global clean energy,” Fei Zhi stated.

GCL expects to leverage the acceleration of Indonesia’s energy transition to build mutually beneficial partnerships.

The collaboration will focus on waste-to-energy power projects as well as the integration of photovoltaic technology and energy storage systems (PVT).

“GCL hopes to leverage the momentum of Indonesia’s accelerating energy transition to build mutually beneficial cooperation with Pertamina NRE, particularly in the waste-to-energy power sector as well as the integration of photovoltaic technology and PVT energy storage,” said Fei Zhi.

Following the signing of the memorandum of understanding, the Pertamina NRE delegation conducted a site visit to GCL’s waste-to-energy power generation facility in Suzhou.

The visit was aimed at observing the implementation of environmental management systems and best practices in project operation and management.

Pertamina NRE expressed optimism that the collaboration would serve as an important foundation for advancing clean energy technology innovation.

“Pertamina NRE is optimistic that this cooperation will become a crucial foundation for driving technological innovation and the development of clean energy business models that can be practically implemented in Indonesia, strengthening Pertamina’s role as a key driver of the national energy transition toward achieving NZE 2060,” said John Anis.

Conclusion

The collaboration between Pertamina NRE and GCL reflects Indonesia’s growing commitment to accelerating the clean energy transition through strategic international partnerships. By combining global expertise with local capabilities, the cooperation is expected to drive technological innovation, support national emission reduction targets, and strengthen Pertamina’s role in achieving Net Zero Emissions by 2060.
