Jakarta, INTI –  Through the Ministry of Industry (Kemenperin) is taking strategic steps by accelerating the transformation of the maritime industry sector to make it more competitive and sustainable. As the largest archipelago in the world, Indonesia has great potential in the maritime sector. The maritime industry, including shipbuilding and shipping, plays an important role in supporting national economic growth, especially in strengthening inter-island and inter-state connectivity.

Direction of Transformation Towards Green Industry

Director of Maritime Industry, Transportation Equipment, and Defense Equipment (IMATAP) of the Ministry of Industry, Mahardi Tunggul Wicaksono, said that his party will continue to encourage the acceleration of the transformation of the maritime industry towards green industry. This reflects the government's commitment to building an industrial sector that is not only productive, but also environmentally friendly.

"Indonesia as an archipelago has a big responsibility to maintain the marine ecosystem. Therefore, we focus on making the maritime industry, shipyards, and shipping transform to a greener direction," said Wicaksono.

Increasing Maritime Industry Exports

This transformation is not only aimed at environmental sustainability, but also at improving global competitiveness. According to data from the Ministry of Industry, the export value of Indonesia's maritime industry has shown a positive trend in the past decade.

In 2024, the export of the maritime industry was recorded at USD835 million, and in 2022 it even broke the USD1.2 billion mark. This figure shows the great potential that can still be developed through innovation and industrial collaboration.

Sea Indonesia 2025 Exhibition: Momentum for Global Collaboration

As part of efforts to accelerate the growth of the sector, the Ministry of Industry is supporting the implementation of Sea Indonesia 2025, the largest and most comprehensive maritime exhibition in Indonesia. The event was officially opened by Mahardi Tunggul Wicaksono and became an important event for domestic businesses to establish cooperation with international maritime companies.

President Director of PT Kshatriya Piningit Kamulyan and organizer of the event, Johnson W. Sutjipto, stated that the exhibition provides a great opportunity for information exchange, business collaboration, and strategic investment. "This event provides everything needed to strengthen partnerships and develop Indonesia's maritime business," Johnson said.

Momentum of 20 Years of Cabotage Principle

The implementation of Sea Indonesia 2025 also coincides with the 20th anniversary of the implementation of the cabotage principle in Indonesia. This policy refers to Presidential Instruction No. 5 of 2005 concerning the Empowerment of the National Shipping Industry, which requires the use of Indonesian-flagged vessels for domestic transportation.

This anniversary is a moment of reflection as well as encouragement to continue to strengthen the independence of the national shipping industry and ensure the sustainability of the maritime sector in the future.

Conclusion:

The transformation of Indonesia's maritime industry into a green industry is one of the government's main focuses in realizing sustainable economic growth. With the acceleration carried out by the Ministry of Industry, the support of positive export data, and collaboration through the Sea Indonesia 2025 event, the maritime sector is expected to play a major role in strengthening national connectivity and global competitiveness. This step is also in line with the 20th anniversary of the cabotage principle as a form of commitment to the independence of national shipping. Indonesia continues to strive to become a resilient, modern and environmentally friendly maritime nation.
