Jakarta, INTI - Following the earthquake that struck the East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) region, PT Telkom Indonesia (Persero) Tbk (Telkom) has continued to expand its emergency response measures as part of efforts to restore digital telecommunication services.
As part of TelkomGroup, PT Telkom Satelit Indonesia (Telkomsat) is playing a role by targeting the provision of satellite-based connectivity at 17 locations across Maumere, Ruteng, and Larantuka.
EVP of Telkom Regional III, Rachmad Dwi Hartanto, said that Telkomsat will optimize its satellite capabilities to provide reliable communication access.
"Infrastructure restoration at several locations still requires time and is being carried out in stages. We need to ensure that all of TelkomGroup's resources and capabilities are effectively deployed to assist this process, including through the utilization of Telkomsat's satellite services,” said Rachmad in an official statement on Monday, August 17, 2026.
Telkomsat is leveraging its satellite capabilities to provide reliable communication access in areas still undergoing recovery, particularly where terrestrial network infrastructure is experiencing disruptions or limitations.
Restored Connectivity is Crucial
Telkomsat VP Corporate Secretary, Fino Arfiantono, said that connectivity is a crucial necessity to ensure the public can access information.
"We understand that in disaster situations, connectivity becomes a crucial necessity, both for the public to stay in touch and access information, and for various parties to coordinate response efforts on the ground. We aim to provide satellite connectivity support at 17 locations across Maumere, Ruteng, and Larantuka," said Fino.
He added that this initiative is part of Telkomsat's commitment to delivering tangible benefits to the community, especially when communication access is vital during emergencies.
"In situations like this, the most important thing is how our technology and capabilities can provide real benefits to the community. Telkomsat will continue to collaborate with TelkomGroup and all stakeholders to support the recovery process, ensuring that communication access in affected areas is restored to meet various needs on the ground," Fino concluded.
This satellite connectivity support complements the ongoing network restoration process. To date, several fiber-optic network segments, BTS sites, and other infrastructure components have been restored and are back online.
