Jakarta, INTI - Indonesia has once again gained international recognition by securing two prestigious certifications from the World Broadband Association (WBBA): the AI-Net Certification and the WBBA Gigacity Certification.
The certifications were announced during the Broadband Development Summit (BDS) APAC 2026, held in Bangkok, Thailand, on July 14, 2026. The awards were presented to Indonesia's Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs (Kemkomdigi) alongside the country's telecommunications operators, acknowledging the significant progress of Indonesia's national broadband ecosystem.
Kemkomdigi received the AI Net Country 2026 Award in recognition of Indonesia's readiness to support AI-driven digital infrastructure, including the deployment of Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies, IPv6, and Net5.5G networks.
Meanwhile, the Gigacity Certification was awarded for Indonesia's success in increasing IPv6 adoption from 25% to 35%, as well as for implementing forward-looking policies that accelerate the country's digital economic transformation and strengthen digital development across the ASEAN region.
"This integrated global certification standard validates Indonesia's long-term digital transformation strategy and will further accelerate the deployment of intelligent, high-quality network infrastructure across the nation," said Denny Setiawan, Director of Digital Infrastructure Strategy and Policy at the Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs, who accepted the award on Indonesia's behalf.
According to Denny, these achievements represent an important milestone in Indonesia's digital transformation journey while supporting the realization of the Indonesia Smart 2030 vision.
Indonesian Telecom Operators Receive Global Honors
Beyond these two certifications, Indonesia emerged as one of the top performers at the Broadband Development Summit APAC 2026, earning a total of five awards and certifications across both national and telecommunications operator categories.
Meanwhile, PT XLSMART Telecom Sejahtera Tbk became the first telecommunications operator in the world to receive the AI-Net Champion Award for successfully implementing its Net5.5G roadmap. PT Solusi Sinergi Digital Tbk (SURGE) received the WBBA Gigacity Champion Award for its innovative Starlite SUPER Fixed Broadband (FBB) and 1.4 GHz Broadband Wireless Access (BWA) services, while Telkomsel was recognized for advancing its 5G-based Fixed Wireless Access (FWA) offerings.
These achievements underscore the strong collaboration between the Indonesian government and the telecommunications industry in accelerating the country's digital transformation and building a future-ready digital infrastructure.
Conclusion
Indonesia's strong performance at WBBA APAC 2026 highlights the country's rapid progress in building future-ready digital infrastructure and expanding next-generation broadband technologies. The recognition received by both the government and leading telecommunications operators demonstrates a collaborative commitment to accelerating AI adoption, advanced connectivity, and digital transformation, further strengthening Indonesia's position as an emerging digital leader in the Asia-Pacific region.
