5 hours ago | Artificial Intelligence

Jakarta, INTI - The Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Technology (Kemdiktisaintek) and PT Telkom are exploring opportunities for collaboration between national industries and higher education institutions.

On Tuesday, August 11, Kemdiktisaintek received a visit from Telkom to discuss the matter, specifically regarding research and innovation in artificial intelligence (AI), computing, and digital security.

Minister Brian Yuliarto stated that Kemdiktisaintek possesses research capabilities relevant to the development of strategic technologies, including AI, computing, and semiconductor-supporting technologies.

“Various research initiatives in higher education institutions actually align with industry needs, including Telkom’s. We are conducting research on AI and semiconductors. We would be very pleased if these research efforts could align. However, our research often stops at the policy recommendation stage rather than progressing to applications with commercial value,” explained Brian.

Matching Academic Expertise with Industry Needs

Furthermore, he emphasized the importance of matching the expertise found in higher education institutions with the real-world needs of the industry. He noted that a key challenge requiring a solution is how to advance research to the point where it yields applications with commercial value.

In addition to technology development, the discussion highlighted the importance of the downstreaming and commercialization of research outcomes. The meeting also addressed Telkom’s support for the Sekolah Garuda program across four locations, and the company indicated a readiness to provide broader support.

This meeting is expected to strengthen ties between higher education and industry, paving the way for research that is more relevant to strategic technology needs while simultaneously encouraging the wider application of research results.

Kemdiktisaintek and PT Telkom discussed strengthening collaboration between higher education institutions and the industry, particularly in the fields of AI research, computing, semiconductors, and digital security.
